My dad thinks phones should just be phones, but things change.
Indeed, and it seems that MS is pissing off their core market and risking a lot of revenue in favor of trying to get into new markets. (Probably unsuccessfully)
What does that remind you of? Here's a hint: Start Menu.
What is the purpose of getting these features in and advertising them so hard? The X360 and PS3 already had half of them, but they weren't advertised much because..well, being a games
console they tend to mainly be used for gaming; most people I know who have a PS3 and/or Xbox 360 mainly use them for games (I also include people who are definitely not IT Techs or even really much above casual gamers in that, by the way) and don't want
to use those features...Also, considering that MS will make a loss on each console sold at first why would they even want these people (Who would most likely buy 1-2 games at most
in the entire life-time of the console) to buy their console? It worked for Nintendo because they made profits on every Wii (And no doubt Wii U) sold from day one. Considering you need a Kinect 2 and the like I doubt MS is going to be able to make a profit on this without launching it at PS3 launch level prices which will make it fail in its own way.
I've also said this before, as well: Why didn't MS "leak" the new controller around now to generate hype, launch the console at E3 and announce games at launch, then show the TV stuff off later? You know what was announced at E3 2005? The PS3, the "revolution" and the Xbox 360 with games. It's clear MS is concentrating on breaking new markets with this but once again hasn't realized they can do that without alienating their core audience or features that only a few people really need or want.

the console reveal? It's only thanks to countless doubts/concerns people are throwing at MS employees in forms of Twitter feeds, emails, articles, etc....the responses are fragmented all over the freaking internet in bits and pieces. Is that how MS wanted the cold hard facts to spread?
Why wasn't the stuff about lack of backwards compatibility, inbuilt DRM, mandatory Kinect, mandatory internet connection every 24 hours, etc (you know stuff about the console
) included in the console reveal??
Microsoft dun' goofed.
Exactly, no matter how you spin it MS stuffed this announcement up heaps, there's a tonne of confusion and no-one is quite sure what they're trying to do.

No, but do all the additional features on my HTC One make the phone calling worse at all? Nope, and a smartphone really isn't just a phone anymore..hence the smartphone, phablet, etc labels. At the very least, the 3 OS thing is going to eat up more RAM than the PS4s system software unless MS does some serious optimization to the Windows kernel.
