It sold horribly in Japan and was never exported as a result (except on eBay and places like that), mainly due to it being ~$600 - ~$750, though also because PS3 rumors were coming around the same time and people though it was best to wait for the PS3. Personally I kinda like it, it's basically a PS2 + DVD burner + DVR (160GB or 250GB), but it was still way too expensive.

Did Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go or any other such service exist like it does today?

How about the distribution of broadband internet then as compared to now?

Seriously??

We live in a completely different world then we did a decade ago wouldn't you agree? I also remember the outrage that was Valve's initiative. It was called......"STEAM"

No offense, but how old are you?

Things change. I don't have a smartphone. I refuse to pay the ridiculous costs associated with them, it's suppose to be used to talk on. (IN MY OPINION)

Guess what? Turns out I was wrong. Though, I still refuse to pay for the dang things.

Things will always evolve and change, no matter how much crying this community does. Furthermore, MS will be successful, because we are the niche and millions of people will buy this so called "xbone" regardless how much "core gamers" whine and cry about it on forums such as these.

Never said I was against change but when people look at a console, the first thing that comes to their mind is video-games. That is how it's been since the very first console and I am pretty sure that is how it will be in the next generation console cycle. Just my 2cents on the matter. 2cents.gifthumb.gif

I hear you and I don't disagree. But outrage because the myriad of devices in our living rooms over the past several decades are starting to converge?? It's silly. We knew before the show that games were going to be emphasized at e3. They told us as much.

I'm the "old" grumpy guy here apparently. I ask how old people are because I have, for this group of people, gamers especially, the advantage of getting into this hobby (computers, video gaming, etc) on the ground floor. So I can look back to the beginning and see all the changes, all the missteps, all the advances all of it.

Recently it's been:

People hate 3d, it's not ready.

They hate new interface devices, like Wii U's gamepad.

They hate the Move and the Kinect and the Wii motion controller.

"They're not ready for prime time" and "it's gimmicky family crap"

and maybe they're right.

What I see is a bad*** game in 2023 that has all this technology in it's 6th generation working together so I can kick your virtual *** in the coolest way possible. That's what I see. But it ain't possible unless that start intro'ing new ideas, new "gimmicks", new ways to interact with our entertainment be it movies, TV's or video games.

I see a console in 2020 that has movies and shows on it that's like a Choose your Own Adventure or Zork book that's all interactive via voice and motion and it's outcome is tailored based on it's viewers input.

I'm a nobody, dumb groundpounder who's nursed this hobby since I was a kid. I'm just telling you folks that this thing will constantly change and will stop doing things you love and hopefully will introduce new things for you. (I love combat sims for example. Hard to find these days)

So take it easy with the hyperbole. Your console games are going to be just fine.

Wrong. The differences aren't massive, but I know for a fact that the PS3 actually renders less detail in quite a number of games than the 360. (eg. Brake Discs in GTA IV, holstered gun in civilian zones in ME2/3 among others if I'm remembering this correctly)
Also, that hardly disproves my point...The PS4 is much faster, and having 3 OS' at once will not be easy on the RAM. The CPU and GPU should be fine short of really retarded moves but I wouldn't be surprised if we find out the 360 has less RAM dedicated to games, plus...What you/anand are saying should make us less happy as it means we get less good looking games overall than if the XBOne had an equal or faster GPU.

Clearly. That's true of all consoles, and I know that for a fact as I already own an X360 and a PS3.

They don't exist today, unless I use a slow VPN/Proxy to make them think I'm American. thumb.gif

I may get 2.4MB/s on Steam and the like but that doesn't change the fact that if I want to use the XBOne for virtually everything announced today, I'll either have a limited selection (Only streaming services in Australia cover 2 major networks out of 5...One of which has Mythbusters, Top Gear and then a tonne of softcore porn arthouse movies while the other one has kids TV and a few good docos, the meat and potatoes of what people watch here is on the other 3 channels.
After a quick Google, I found out that one of our major networks (Nine) has no hope of really launching one..They've got a massive debt, one (Seven/Prime) has it if you're on Foxtel which I assume means you'll have to pay a monthly fee to watch free-to-air TV and the other one..well, it's never been a big one. (Ten)

The fact of the matter is a lot of the features currently announced in the XBOne are useless or near useless outside of America, we can't stream as much (And if it's anything like the X360 apps, we might have to get XBL Gold) and not as many people here have cable...The apps and stuff I already have my smartphone for, hell, even controlling my TV; my phone actually grabs the local guides and tells me if there's shows I want to watch starting while also providing an on-screen button to start the TV, switch channels, etc, I (And a lot of other people) don't use Skype either...Or if we do, it's on a laptop or netbook that we're using to browse Facebook or something while ads are running on TV.
Do I want all of this in one? No. I have them as side-features in everything else and that's my point...Ooh, I can control my TV with it! But then I can do that with a Galaxy S4, HTC One or the actual remote that came with it. Ooh, I can stream! Oh wait, it's not available in my region.
MS should have these features, and they are great features..The main problem here is marketing.

I know it isn't fair to compare services that exist to those that didn't back then, but the idea was the same, to centralize entertainment. What I'm saying is that Sony already tried putting the concept to market, and it didn't work for whichever reason you choose. Whether or not it would work now is a complex question to tackle if you look at it from a hardware perspective, so it helps console makers and us to focus more on software (except during a hardware presentation...). It's best not to overcomplicate things.

I'm going to bet money that it'll work now.

Do any of you seriously believe that Xbox One is going to fail. Honestly. Set your disappointments, anger, or whatever aside and think about it.

This isn't some OS and a silly start menu we're talking about here, reliant on enterprise/corporate sales. This is Joe Blow playing Madden / CoD with his pals.

Considering MS "limited" success outside of the US compared to the other consoles, it would only make sense that their focus would be in their home market.

Oh and I'm an owner of all the consoles as well. No need to get --edited-- about "company defense forces" or whatever. I'm just reasonable --edit-- about what companies do. I either buy their products.............or I don't. It's that simple.

They had "limited" success in Japan and (Arguably, anyway) Europe...But went a long way to fixing the Europe one with the FIFA exclusive DLC. Everywhere else was dominated by the 360 for ages or only got it and the PS3 much later, that I've seen anyway.

As for whether the XBOne fails or not, I doubt it'll fail...I just don't think it'll win this generation; I called it for the PS3 when we found out the launch price and that it was much later.

I found something interesting, if that's true the XBOne has 5GB RAM for games compared to the PS4's rumoured 7GB. Yep, the new TV features won't impact gaming at all if this is true. rolleyes.gif

MS has the ability to change around the system with simple OS updates, considering that OS on the ps3 uses more ram then the much more feature packed 360 dashboard I think MS will be fine.
I like the idea of my console not getting outdated and being fresh and always having features added in. The ps3 has been using the same stale dashboard for ever, I would imagine it would be the same of the ps4. Also nothing is confirmed, MS is a lot better about software quality anyway. I would rather have a quick OS on my next console then wait seconds after seconds trying to go to different menus.

Personally thing about the new xbox is you don't need a cable card or anything like that (while it would be nice to have that, cable cards are old tech and oversized) having a cable box with HDMI is pretty easy to come by. Really almost everyone I know has cable/satellite TV, not having a TV subscription is kinda weird here in the states. Being a Media center is just a added bonus, it is something that currently has been working great with the 360. MS also is tossing Voice tech years ahead of what anyone else is working with into the console, along with a camera that will make it easier for user logins for familys.

And for those that don't like the always plugged in camera, yet sony will also have this for use with the controller as well so almost anyone would already have it plugged in, Yet you have a smart phone are just crazy. If MS can track you in the living room then google and apple can track you everywhere you go, see everything you like to do. They know your passwords, they know your eating habits, hell they could probably turn the camera on and watch you use your phone. You are worrying about Big brother yet your smartphone is big brother in the fullest. rolleyes.gif Seems people just like to hate on MS, I would rather give my money to MS then have those greedy sony guys sue some kid's family for all they own with it for downloading a single song. Plus you really want your info being stored on Asian servers ready for the picking... Because big brother is such a threat tongue.gif

Funny thing is even if the ps4 has better specs, having clunky features and a few good games isn't going to win people over where tech is taking off. I think the Media center is just added bonus along with software that doesnt suck and multiplayer features that are fresh. Most of what sony was showing off with the ps4 you can already do with live on the 360. Xbox live and Steam both have a easy way to join peoples games, PSN on the ps4 will be sony just catching up to the 360 IMO. Being a gen behind in the online game is not the way to go when multiplayer games are some of the most played games.

Tying games to accounts so I cannot lend or borrow games from my friends, unless I pay a fee, just gives me even less reason to buy one. It makes you wonder why they even bother with discs in the first place.

I also think online requirements are a really bad idea. It's not exactly the greatest thing on a PC, now they want to tie consoles up the same way?

Kinect always listening in on you? (he mentions it right in that video) What else is it doing?

Seriously, what reason should I be thinking about buying a Xbox right now? Call of Duty? With Dogs?

The more I hear about this system the more that puts me off even considering one, let alone buying one. I think I'll be looking at a PS4 this generation, or sticking with my PC, because I'm already losing interest in Xbox One.
