The new Kinect actually looks very technically impressive. I imagine it will be pretty useful for amateur/hobby animators and indie devs if someone jerry-rigs the Kinect for mo-cap.

Why on earth didn't they play Forza 5 for like 2 minutes at least? Racing games ALWAYS look far far better then any other games on a console and it would definitely leave an "OMG" impression. It looks like they finally got tire rendering right on the cars as well. Tires and windows have always been massive giveaways for racing games, they always look unnatural no matter how good the car is rendered but it seems they fixed that.

Also this Xbox looks like it was designed for use in the USA only. Alot of those features won't be available in other countries especially the poorer ones.

All the games shown had mediocre graphics, barely better than current gen. Maybe rumors are true and One's GPU is weaker than PS4's "7850".

Expect games that only look slightly better then what the 360/ps3 can muster up right now for about 1 year or so and they will start getting better and better each and every year. I liked what i saw today. It looks like these next gen boxes have alot of VRAM to play with and the new engines have much much better lighting then what current gen games are using. Lighting is extremely important in making games look great and it looks like that is their focus since they realized adding more polygons wont make as big of an impact as they did with the xbox-360 switch.

I actually expect the first games that are gonna be made with new consoles in mind (not the transition ones that are gonna be made for both generations) to have current pc level graphics.

I liked everything till EA came up.

TV box feeding into the console will probably be the sole reason I get this over the ps4. OS is quick and looks good, I can still use my old xbox live account. Has blu-ray but I still have a PS3 and a HTPC with a blu-ray drive so Its not like I really need it for movies. Some Might like that feature though, but the smart glass additions are looking pretty good. Being able to switch to the internet on the fly is one reason I like playing games with the steam overlay. Compared to what sony showed on their dashboard and features, MS just shat all over it. That PS share button is kinda stupid, the xbox has allowed you to jump in peoples games using built in xbox live features. While not all games support it, joining someones game on xbox live has always been as simple as clicking on their avatar and clicking join game.

[Kotaku] Xbox One Is Not Always Online, But Seems To Restrict Used Games

Quote:
The next Xbox won't require an Internet connection to function, but could very well block used games, unless you feel like paying Microsoft some extra cash.

Wired got a look at Xbox One before today's big reveal, and they say that games will require installation to use. “On the new Xbox, all game discs are installed to the HDD to play,” Microsoft told them.

Source

Mod Edit: Please use proper News section formatting.

Used games look to be blocked unless you apparently pony up money for them to be unlocked basically and we HAVE TO install our games to the 500 gig HDD? Do you have any idea how long 30-50 gigs of data from a Blu Ray drive will take to transfer to a mechanical likely 5400RPM interior laptop HDD Microsoft?

And if you wanna give your game to a friend to try out? Yeah, he's gotta pay a fee

Herrrm....................

My thoughts after watching live stream

1. Sweet, slot load Blu ray drive! About farking time, enough of the stupid trays already!

2. System looks simple and decent enough all around, looks like its gonna be hefty with all that equipment just like Xbox 1 was lol. Coulda been worse but nothing really that screams "Schweeet!" when looking at it

3. 500gig HDD is a good starting space but something tells me that it may not be upgradeble/removable *Shrug*

4. Good, looks like they weren't smart and didn't screw up the controller. Whats the rating/charging/capacity of the battery? Removable?

5. Looks like they learned thier lesson on the nerfed hardware on the Kintect 1, Kintect 2 looks beefy but after trying Kintect 1, I just honestly didn't care for it and it didn't work well in my apt townhouse

6. Halo TV series? Could be cool, could royally suck/be overhyped

7. *yawwwn* Another COD? Never been a fan, moving on....

8. Special corporate deal with the NFL? Woopeee doo, how much money did Microsoft throw at them for that? Not being a football fan in general, real life or virtual, this means nothing to me.

9. Ah hell, Windows 8 Tiles all over the place on the dashboard, oh goody...... *not*

10. Backwards compatibility? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

11. I'm really not feeling or desiring a do it all system Microsoft, I wanna a sweet gaming console platform to go along with my dedicated HTPC I built, Blu ray player and xbox 360.

12. Where will the RROD generation 2 show up on this box? Lol, had to ask. Wonder how how/quiet this thing is gonna run

EDIT: No backwards compatibility either, Disc or via cloud. Guess i'm keeping my Xbox 360 to keep playing some of my favorites[/B]

UPDATE: XBOX One WILL NOT FUNCTION if Kinect is not connected to the system

"The Xbox One features an 8-core CPU, 8GB of system memory, and a 500GB hard drive, Microsoft's Marc Whitten announced today. The console uses a single system-on-a-chip (SoC) using a 40 nanometer process combining the GPU, CPU, memory, and more onto a single chip."

why would they be using a chip on 40nm ???
