I don't own a console but why don't they make it free internet access like Playstation does? I could never understand why you'd have to pay Microsoft points to have internet access when you can get free internet via Playstation or Desktop?

Why does XBOX have requirements to have access to internet via purchasing Microsoft Points? What is the moot point behind that? Can anyone explain?

Southbridge would add a few; not many though; hmmm, RAM ? Some custom controllers for Kinect, for example ? The Wi-fi radio chips, etc.

Is it true that it will come with 8 GB of DDR3 RAM and not GDDR5 ?

Bullcrap, point me to a laptop that cost less or at $500 dollars a few years ago that could play games like that without overheating or being a stuttering mess.

I had one of these.

AMD Turion X2 @2.2 GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM
500 GB HDD
AMD Radeon Mobility 5650 (1GB dedicated)

Launch price/date = £456 in 2009 (PS3 launch price = £425, 360 launch price = *can't find anything*)

It could run most games at 1280x720 @30+fps on low/medium (typical PS3/360 performance)

It could even run Farming Simulator 2009 at 1920x1080 on medium and still get 30-35 fps

Lol XBL is MUCH better than PSN, any owner of both consoles know this.

Either these consoles will have a lower shelf life compared to the current generation, or I'm curious to see what kind of excuses game developers will bring forward to justify that PC games won't be advancing as much once consoles start showing their age. In the first three years it's all good to go because programming direct to the metal (or at least much closer to it than on PC's) will even the playing field, after that in the following two years the differences will be minor, but surely after the fifth year the hardware in consoles will be outdated and people will start complaining... again.

Huh? The original Xbox was more powerful than the PS2 by quite a bit. Xbox 360 isn't more powerful than the PS3 either.
