Sadly PS4 is doing the same thing. In an age where game libraries are 10x more important than the consoles themselves I don't know why both companies are raising the middle finger to such a crucial aspect of gaming. It is also easily the strongest advantage of PC - being able to play age-old games no matter how many hardware upgrades you make.

Well in theory the move for PS4/One to being a straight pc may mean future consoles will be backwards compatible. They're actually moving to your prefered advantage. PS3 and even the 360 are very custom. they'd need to include the old hardware in the new systems which would bump up the cost.

They'll do 1080p remakes as well for you to buy

I agree, drm, semi-always on (perma on and you get benefits), used game fee, always on kinect and etc are all bad things but this is like another COD debate, unfortunately the masses will continue to buy and support crap like this.

Also I lol'd at the reveal, all I saw was an ad for Cod: Ghosts, don't even get me started on that POC.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the end of console gaming as we know it.

There are no brakes on the xbox train, choo choo, all aboard the bandwagon! choo choo!!

I disagree. There are bound to be a fair number of people (myself included) that are so disgusted, they will likely never purchase an X1, and will get a PS4 instead (or nothing).

That means Microsoft's market share will decrease, and hopefully they will see that as "we dun messed up," and never do something so stupid ever again.

A man can hope, anyway.

I see a lot of people saying that sports fans would appreciate this a lot.

As a sports fan, this is absolutely useless. I'll stick to my NFL red zone and looking at the phone when I have a chance for fantasy stuff. Half the time I am browsing twitter during a game in between plays anyway.

If you haven't experienced NFL red zone, well its pretty much non stop football for 6 hours with no breaks or commercials covering every game in the league that is playing.

Seeing this picture sort of helped me a bit. Unless the controller is unusually large the system and Kinect sensor do not appear as big as the initial pictures.

No such thing as a used game anymore... things change.

Back in the day, the cartridge was the game, the disc was the game, now they're throw-away items..

I am liking what I am seeing, but at the same time I have questions. Until the console is released, will hold final judgement. It is pretty cool though smile.gif

Of course, judging by the reveal presentation, it sounds like MS's intended audience are people who want to wave their arms around at the screen to post messages to Twitter.

My thoughts exactly, they seem to have forgotten that the majority of XBOX sales are because of gaming, not Twitter. uggh

uhm ok then. that alone is gonna cost them alot of sells.

Call me paranoid or whatever but the kinect aspect really bothers me. Between Kinect, the always online (effectively), and games being locked to XBL accounts, M$ can count me OUT. Hello PS4

Not sure I understand what exactly this means but thought some of the geeks here may be interested:
Quote:
The Xbox One's eight CPU cores each can each handle six operations per cycle, while its GPU handles 768 operations per cycle. Microsoft Xbox panelist Nick Baker, who worked on the console's processors, stated that the chips have power switches inside the silicon, adding, "It can actually turn off cores that are not being used." Baker also said that the Xbox One has five custom pieces of silicon that are split between the main console and the Kinect device.

That's the thing, I highly doubt there will be "future consoles". The previous generation lasted 7-8 years and this new gen will be milked for at least 10 years I bet, by which time there will be a solution to all this 3-platform mess.

Almost same layout of the 360. Shame, was looking forward to watercooling it.
