[Various] Xbox One Reveal - Page 87

Update 3:Microsoft corporate vice president Phil Harrison has suggested that customers who activate a pre-owned retail disc for the Xbox One will need to pay the same price as the original buyer to access the content.

When asked by Kotaku whether the secondhand owner will be "paying the same price we [the original buyer] paid, or less" Harrison responded "let's assume it's a new game, so the answer is yes, it will be the same price."

Harrison also said that owners can trade their secondhand games online, however the company is "not talking about it today".

Update 4: Microsoft's Larry Hryb has clarified statements regarding using owned Xbox One titles on separate devices:

"Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend's house - should you choose to play your game at your friend's house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile."

This seems like a PR nightmare.

Yea well I'm thinking that it may be used to help run the online multiplayer on games.

LMAO too funny. Golden. I wanna see someone do one of it from the top down shot of the x1, in place of the actual bottle, more real to actual size.

Reminds me I need to install PS on this PC. Microsoft better have one hell of a E3 game lineup. Especially with all those new franchises they promised. Better not be some BS kinect games too, Kinect Pet Sports, Kinect Water Polo or some crap like that. Cause technically, those are new franchises

MS lies.

Actually Microsoft never said anything one way or the other, and all leaked info pointed to it, so yea, they didn't lie. Not defending them, just stating the facts.

Can we just get Microsoft to add Kinect support to the PS3?

Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend’s house – should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile.

Once you use it, that game will then be linked to your Xbox Live account. "It sits on your harddrive and you have permission to play that game as long as you’d like," Harrison said.

Does anyone read anymore? I really don't see this as such a big deal. Sure it sucks if you want to lend your game to a friend for a while, but it really isn't all that bad.

Sure, because cloud computing worked so well for Simcity.

we didnt get used to it, we were forced to accept it with a take it or leave it approach. you are forced to bend over if you ever want to play the game

i can see future generation consoles being ring of death = re-buy your entire game collection as they are console bound much like software licenses bound to hardware

Wow. Just wow. Full price for a new game just to let a friend play it.

So it's no longer enough for us to buy the games once. You got to buy the game each time for every Xbox Account you want to play it on.

So you have to have the lender over and use his account, but then wait...
This means the friend can't track any progress or save any data for the game, because it will be saved on the "cloud" for the lender's account.

Only one disc to one account? That is one heck of a deal breaker. What about people who live together with separate accounts? The disc arms race begins.

Way to absolutely kill an entire huge segment of gaming.

Microsoft better fix this quick unless they want to be stomped into the ground by the gaming community.

edit:
I have owned the PS1, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, and Xbox 360.
So when it comes to console gaming, I love it and embrace it but...
If Microsoft does not undo all this mess, I will most certainly be plenty happy not having an Xbox One.
If Sony follows suit, I won't get a PS4.

I will continue to have lots of fun on my 360 just as I do now.

If all else fails, perhaps it's time to play some Mario!

How greedy Microsoft and game publishers have become. It's not enough for them to re-hash the same old game every year but now they want to charge people to play a used game even if it doesn't use xbox live to play online.
If the console requires internet to active a game they better make sure customers know this or places like Walmart will be hearing from pissed off parents returning this product. Not every house hold has access to the internet.
