I wonder if we'll ever see a day where consoles are just an app for your phone along with a stand to place it so the camera and microphone grant kinnect and voice capabilities along with additional controllers of varying types.

Everything connected together via bluetooth and wifi.

edit: And about the cloud thing, I think it could be a benefit, if done right (laugh). However we still run into issues like the fact that our ISP's are all scum who want to charge us outrageous prices for the smallest amounts of data and use their monopolistic powers to do so. So having to send and receive extra data isn't good. Then there's the issue with performance down the road when microsoft decides they don't care about you anymore and discontinue the service.

Not to mention cloud computing has been tainted by things like the sim-city fiasco. Does anyone really believe any of the crap these corporate scum spew at us? I think we're all pretty much convinced that "cloud computing" is just the new DRM at this point.

I really doubt cloud computing is going to work the way they think it will. Either they'll increase the online fees for the new servers dedicated to cloud computing or they'll skimp on the hardware and lag will be prevalent.
The more they stretch this new Xbox in different directions the more problems they'll have. Right now there is no infrastructure for this and the future costs for building and maintaining one will be pretty high.

So will cloud computing make the new Xbox as fast as the PS4?tongue.gif
post #934 of 1376
How many years will they support cloud computing before killing it, just like they do with servers for EA Sports games.

Steam can be started offline, without an internet connection at all, anytime, as long as you have logged in at least once since the last update.

That's the difference.

Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend’s house – should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile.

Now we know why EA are dropping their online passes, because now we have a pass, just to play a game (never mind be online), built into the hardware.

They've pretty much taken everything people didn't want and put it into their new system. I really hope this comes back to haunt them.

Xbox One and Used Games

We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we’ve confirmed today. While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail.

Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios.

I love watching internet sometimes.

There is still a 100 mile que to suck Gabe Newell's big toe for the "gift" that it Steam. Gamers DEMAND Steam (for their own selfish reasons but nvm).

The Gaming Master Race will literally make news headlines when a game isn't on Steam.

-Integrated internet browser.

-An easily managed gaming library.

-Community based functions that allow communication/matchmaking/gaming with friends

-An inability to resell games

-An inability to borrow games.

-Overpriced games until they decide to lower the price to levels you could already buy them in almost any other store (at least in the UK).

All of these things are what most people on OCN love about Steam.

So now the XBO will have:

-Integrated internet browser

-An easily managed gaming library (no more changing discs to play a different game, and downloading titles will definitely be a thing)

-Community based functions that allow communication/matchmaking/gaming with friends

-An inability to resell games (no cheap games on used market)

-An inability to borrow games (without fee)

-Overpriced games until they decide to lower the price to levels you could already buy them in almost any other store.

-And much much more functionality than that

But all of a Sudden, OCN doesn't like these things.

-Because they want a next gen xbox.......

Sometimes I wonder if OCN forumites were born in a bubble that restricts them from understanding that there is an "outside" that exists beyond their personal experiences/feelings/preferences.

As far as I can tell, "a console experience" is just using a controller instead of keyboard and mouse and you are able to plug it into a TV. Which I have explained in an earlier post, if you have bluetooth and an HDMI out on your computer, you can emulate the "console experience"
So far the only "One" exclusive which has been announced is Forza 5 and some DLC for sports games.
Games For Windows Live. I know it's terrible, but you can still use it for chatting with people who still have a 360.
The One is supposed to be running Windows 8. The Next gen XBOX is a traditional computer with the option of using a controller to navigate in the menus.
That's a good point, but it's likely that MS is going to release drivers for Windows, just like they did with Kinect 1.0

Read my post. I said the XBOX One looks slightly larger than an Alienware X51. If you have space for the XBOX One, then you have space for the X51.
