You missed a couple of points:
- Absolute maximum settings
A single 680/7970 can't run, for example, Far Cry 3 @ 1600p with more than 2xAA @ 30FPS.
If we scale down to 1200p, that should give you 55FPS at most. That's not quite satisfactory, amirite?
1080 and you might hit the vsync cap. And what about higher refresh rate monitors?
- Games that actually take more resources than FC3. You can look up extreme presets requirements on the newest titles.
- Surround monitor setup is also out of the question unless games like Dirt 3.

Yes, I can play games on up to 5760x1080 on a single GTX680, too. But close to never @ 60fps if I pump settings up. Also, current-gen most games definitely do not run playable on high settings. Perhaps low to medium presets with some tweaking.

And you said it yourself "with most settings turned up" regarding the 660Ti @ 1080p

And, like it has been said, if you and I can't afford a 1000$ TITAN, there are people who can. And they most certainly don't play on 1080p 16:9.
We have to settle with "most settings" turned up @ 1080p.

Playable, sure. Maxing it out no. And it's not maxing it out due to VRAM limitations, it's not maxing it out due to GPU limitations.

1) It shocks me that NVidia would be so retarded as to re-label the GTX 680 as a GTX 770, and yet, they did.
2) Third-party companies will come out with 4GB GTX 770 cards just as there are 4GB GTX 680s today.

Non-issue, really.

1) Why does that surprise you at all? That's what they have done for several generations now.

If they made a 670 with 4GB why wouldn't they make a 770 with 4GB, better yet why not even a 760ti (basically a 670) with 4GB. It's just going to take time to come out that's all.
How long after the 670 2gb did the 670 4gb come out?

Here's the problem with the 4gb models.

this card should max any game out with a single monitor who needs more ?
7 more days till the 770 comes out smile.gif
post #28 of 29
this thread.. doh.gif

and how is it so shocking that nVidia re-branded the GTX 770 from GTX 680, it's been done in that past..?
also released benches show the GTX 770 catching the HD 7970 GE...
so the better deal depends on actual pricing.

as for the 2GB vs 4GB, no comment as it's a repetitive argument..
Not really sure what is so surprising about the 770, seems like it is right where it should be if it's priced directly against the 7970 GE. Considering the 7970 GE is AMD's best single GPU and the 770 is Nvidia's 3rd.. Personally if I needed 4GB of vram, this is not the card I would be buying to begin with.
