I don't doubt that but years? Ivy has only been around for a year. My i5 is a first-batch processor as it was purchased at launch. We will see if the same thing happens to my i7 -- purchased two weeks ago. I'm running it at 4.7 @ ~1.36 V

i'll definitely let you know if i see something of this sort, however, you should stay away from throwing numbers out there biggrin.gif other people will read this thread/forum might see that and end up having results opposite of what they expect

I personally don't like to go over 1.4, but that is me. I have my 2500k at 4.5 running 1.320 vcore. In my opinion, it isn't worth the extra 100mhz to 200mhz for a big jump in vcore. Just my 2cents.gif

You are asking a question for which no definite answer exists outside of the Intel specifications. There have been no scientific studies done independently to determine the rate of degradation at any given voltage, and even if there were, the results would only be a very generic number as no two chips are alike.

The only way you can guarantee that you will not killyyour chip is to not overclock at all. Anything above spec is introducing risks, and the further you get from the specs, the risks increase exponentially.

You mentioned that you ran at 1.57 or 1.59v? Without subzero temps, you almost certainly expedited the rate of degradation, I'd stake quite a bit of money on it. Justddon't try and sell that chip on here without disclosing the highest voltage you have exposed it to.

i've never ran my chip above 1.505v

thank you for posting, i also know this, i was just asking pedro since he was posting numbers and i assumed he got them from a known OCN user conducting tests.

also, if you read my classified or trade reviews you will see i am a honest quality person, unlike some, i do treat my products and sell my products as i would like it to be done to me


sticking to 4.5ghz 1.36v , 4.7ghz 1.505 is not worth it, id rather have a chip run a bit slower but last longer

Keep in mind the true killer is high voltage AND high temps. If you are below 75C then this is much safer. I'm not familiar with the newest chips; I have been busy during the last year, but 1.5 V sounds like a lot. I have folded for months straight at 5.1 GHz and 1.41 V and zero discernable degredation. Is it safe? I don't know, but I now run my chip at 4.5 GHz every day. I don't even notice the decreased processor speed and its safer for my hardware.

I know for my CPU, the 2500K, Intel never listed the max VCore, so acceptable limits were all speculation. Maybe they were a little more clear about the specs with yours?

anyone know where to find the actual intel specified max voltage? seems i can't find it off their site, not sure if it's worth me digging in the storage to find my i7 box/manual and look there biggrin.gif

Does anyone else have experience with launch AND later release chips? I have a launch 3570k and was going to swap it out for a 3770k I'm about to buy and wonder if it will be easier to OC or not.

My 3570k as of right now takes 1.40v to do 4.5, and what I would prefer is 1.35v for 4.6-4.8 which might be a little greedy.
