Some trouble with sleeving custom wires.

So i got my order from Lutro0's Custom last week and hadn't had much time to work on sleeving. But i bought 3 different colored coreless paracord and a bit of his custom 16AWG wire with enough pins and connectors to redo all my cables custom length. I've done this before but with PET style sleeving and standard 16awg wire. The issue i'm having is when i try and slide the wire into the connector it almost makes it all the way in and then crumples the wire right before the connector preventing me from getting the pin to lock inside the connector. So i'm wondering what/if i'm doing something terribly wrong because i'm assuming Lutro0 uses this wire to make his awesome pre-sleeved extension cables.

If you look closely next to the connector where the wires go in you can see how the wire is bunching up inside the sleeving. I will be trying some Standard 16AWG and 18AWG wire tonight to see if it helps at all.

You can get the 'bunching' if you don't stretch the sleeve tightly enough before tacking onto the pin. Also if you've tacked the sleeve too far onto the pin it can stop the pin engaging correctly. Can you do a photo of a sleeve wire showing where the sleeve is on the pin?

OK, I had wondered if i wasn't stretching the sleeve enough because i could feel the wire give inside the sleeving on one of the wires. Never had this problem when using PET style sleeve. I can upload a picture of where the sleeve is on the pin tonight when i get home. I know i did one to far down the pin preventing it from going in correctly but the other ones seemed to be similar to videos i saw.

So it turns out i was trying to put the pins in the wrong way. I don't know how i decided upside down was the correct way but figured it out last night and its all going smoothly now. Heres a pic of my GPU power cable.

I do indeed use my own wire on my own cables, and dont feel bad we have all done this at some point or another!

Thanks for ordering with us! Keep up the good work!

What you've experienced can also happen if you have the paracord too close to the end of the pin.

If you take a look at my example, you will see that the sleeve is at the perfect position. If you have your paracord any closer to the end of the pin, you risk getting it locked up like that and the wire doubling back on you.

Actually you would want it a little higher then that. You want it to be able to melt over the end crimp - this is what gives heatshrinkless its strength. So about the middle of the main crimp is good. Its when you start to get some up by the double prongs that you have issues. Also if its bunched up or bubbled out you will have issues as well.

With pet, your heatshrink will do the work for you but you still need to do some patting down to give it its cone shape.

The same goes for paracord but without the heatshrink. You start closer to the prongs, melt some of it down till you have a small pool of melted nylon and then gently pat it down and twards the front of the pin to form a cone shape - do not twist or roll it like some say to do as that just causes a mess. Also make sure your paracord is tight as this will effect your ends a ton as well.

Refer to my heatshrinkless guide for paracord or for plastic type and watch closely and I show where to melt it. Its very important that its done right otherwise you run the risk of making a weak melt or not being able to get it back inside the connecotor.

Yea, I have been doing more like Lutro0 is saying. with the melted cone in the middle of the crimp. I don't have pic of the wire sleeved without being inserted into the connector. I should be getting my case from FrozenQ on Thursday or Friday so ill be able to post up some more pics of sleeving as i start actually making wires the length i need. Here's my 24pin extension.
