best cooler that doesn't block ram access. - Page 5

Noctua U14s is clearly the best package, the Performance is on par with the best, the build quality, mounting and Service is Top notch and the Fan is way better than the Silverstone/Zalman ones.
The second choice would be the Archon SBE X2 if it fits height wise, then i would suggest the HE-01... Unfortunately the Fan of the HE01 makes annoying bearing noise, wich makes it useless to me...

There is no good reason to get the Zalman unless you REALLY like the design.

You can set the HE01 fan to quiet mode -- I can barely hear it while typing this

Even in performance mode it's not too bad unless you are stress testing and pushing CPU usage to max in which case it'll be screaming at ~2000RPM. The fan is PWM controlled so it doesn't run at fixed RPM.

technically a LN2 pot is best, but let's not go there

I've heard that complaint from others too.

I have read all the postings on this subject and still wondering what I should get. I also have the problem with the heat sink being too tall for my old Thermaltake fan. Using stock AMD fan right now.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition

Unfortunately, Noctua U14S have cleanace for LGA 2011 boards but still blocks the first DIMM slot on LGA 1155 boards. Some reviews has proven this.

Full RAM compatibility on LGA2011
With its 52mm slim design tailor-made for LGA2011, the NH-U14S will not overhang the RAM slots on this platform, thus guaranteeing full compatibility with tall memory modules. On some LGA115x and AMD motherboards, the front fan may overhang the first RAM slot, so standard height RAM (up to 32mm) should be chosen when using the first slot.

Why would anyone want to use high-profile RAM now is beyond me smile.gif

completely depends on the board, since the distance bewtween cpu socket and RAM can vary. On MOST boards it will fit though
