Does it make any difference?

Definitely. Comparing the i7 970 to the 930 is sort of like comparing the 3930k to the 3820. With a cpu that is getting that old, the extra cores would most definitely help if it was bottlenecking the gpu. Regardless, for 1080p just go with a 780, overclock the hell out of it, save yourself $1500 and then get an amazing upgrade later on when big Maxwell comes out. At least, that is what I would do in this situation...
