I'm sorry, but sticking with PowerPC would have held back the new consoles, they went to what had better performance. Keep in mind the new Wii U has a completely anemic CPU and GPU, I'd rather have good performance. The x86 move was the best choice, but there's no way it'll be able to run 360 games.

Halting innovation because you want to run old stuff is a bad idea.
It depends on the company, for a company like Nintendo who makes and publishes most of the top selling games.

Nintendo actually makes a lot of money by supporting their last generation games, because they continue to sell....Makes sense?

So yes in this case of Microsoft and Sony, it's OKAY because they don't make too much money off it, but in Nintendo's, they do.

Makes sense. The original PS3 actually had a PS2 inside of it, for backwards compatibility. Technically MS could do something similar but size and thermals would be out of control.

Edit, looks like Sony finished the day up 9.25 percent. https://www.google.com/finance?q=NYSE:SNE

Second hand sales have been hurting devs for years and microsoft is helping them out. Devs will be thanking them for what they've done I'm sure of it, it was bound to happen get over it.

Steam, origin and u play tie your game to your account, this is no different. I think MS has been smart about this, you get a physical copy that is then turned into a digital one by installing to hdd freeing up your disc tray for blu ray movies. I can switch "instantly" from the state I left any of my games without moving from my chair to put a disk in. Play a casual game whilst looking for matchmaking in another. A console that can multi task, about time.

Backwards compatibility is an issue. Sony had gaikai to solve that. Microsoft are going to have 300,000 servers for Xbox live on the One. Up from 15,000 on the 360 hopefully they'll figure something out otherwise *** are they doing with all that power?

The ps4 event blew my mind, this not so much more short and sweet but they both have similar features it will be interesting fo' sho'.

But, games can be had so much cheaper on PC though. Even brand new releases (if included in one of the GPU game bundles) can be bought for 50% off or more at launch. If this generation's games drop in price because of this then it makes sense. If not then...ouch. Will be interesting to see the 2nd users fee too. If they priced it competitive to what used games were going for (which they could since this time the dev's get the money and not gamestop) then it could get very interesting.

Either way I'm sticking to PC but I'll definitely keep an eye on things this year. Should be fun

EDIT:: Unrelated but that mandatory connect to the internet once every 24 hours thing is BS> My stuff is always on the network...but in situations when you don't have internet for whatever reason, gaming is a great way to pass time. If its disabled at a time like that then whats the point? Might as well twiddle my thumbs.

but there's a key tradeoff to locking games on the PC on one account. PC games generally drop in price MUCH faster than console games, to the point that some PC games sale price will be lower than buying the console equivalent used.

Actually it's a world of difference. The thing to keep in mind is that it is possible to buy a physical copy of a game and leave unconnected from a steam* account. Not possible with an Xbox. As others mentioned, I can log in to steam on another computer and play my games without a paying nominal fee. Not possible with an Xbox. Even then I still primarily buy games during steam's summer/winter sales when prices get slashed to (sometimes) below used game prices.

All of these reason are both why I don't have a xbox but also why people don't complain about steam as much as microsoft's system. Steam behaves more like a backup server whereas xbox live behaves more like drunk chauffeur that demands to be paid before accelerating at green lights and demands you hold their hand at all times.

_______
*I'm only focusing on steam because I don't use the other two. I loathe EA with a fiery hate so I haven't purchased a game from them in a couple years and haven't used origin.

Well, they are now in a partnership with Electronic Arts, so my guess is that having 300,000 servers means that XBox One will soon have "Sim City" and as we all know, it HAS to be online to take advantage of all those remote computers because your computer obviously isn't powerful enough to play Sim City off-line.
