Name my bottleneck

Thread Starter
Besides my entire system ...... what is my bottleneck ? I do some gaming (not a lot, but I have picked up Neverwinter the past week), and mostly word processing and web browsing. Don't have a high budget, but just curious what my bottleneck is now (I am thinking CPU).

I will be running the GTX 460 in SLi next week, just waiting for the other 460 smile.gif

You CPU might hold you back. Since you have a water loop, is your CPU oc'ed at all?

Getting a SSD will also give you a significant boost in performace (load times).

Yes it is - sorry, didn't realize it didnt show on my sig smile.gif. Its at 3.6ghz stable (36multiplier, the bus speed won't go above 100mhz).

I will notice a huge difference with a SSD compared to the raid ? is there any need for a raid configuration after getting a SSD ?

I didn't know you had a RAID. Which RAID is it? You'll get a cut in load and boot times with a SSD regardless.

Putting 2 or 3 SSDs in RAID will improve your performance (just load times) linearly, but any more than that it'll be a waste of money.

If your fps increases by less than 70%, overclocking your CPU might help.

k. I will check into a SSD. I believe its Raid0. both drives are 250gb WD SATA identical drives.

You could also try dedicating 2GB-4GB of your RAM to a RAMDisk.

What should I have on the ramdisk? Just my frequently used programs? I don't know how a ramdisk works, so I did a little bit of research for it.

Ramdisk is amazingly fast !!! Compared to my Raid0 results, it blows it out of the water. I had no idea it was so much faster. I only have 6gb of my 10gb allocated to the ram disk right now.

Just make sure that ramdisk takes snapshots and saves them to a real disk from time to time so you don't lose info.
