[Build Log] "Array" 8-bay hot swap ITX server (U-NAS NSC-800)

This isn't a new system, but rather a transplant of my current home server from a BitFenix Prodigy into a U-NAS NSC-800.

Hardware:

Samsung 64gb SSD
8x 2TB WD Caviar Black (1 In RMA with a Seagate placeholder)
16GB Kingston DDR3-1600
AMD A8-3870k CPU
Asrock A75M-ITX Motherboard
Dell Perc 5/i with 512MB Fully Buffered DDR2-800 and battery
Noctua NH-L9A
FSP Group 460w 1U PSU
Only waiting on the Noctua, which should be here tomorrow!

Some pictures to get things rolling:

Motherboard, Processor and Ram:

Raid card:

SSD:

Hard Drives:

Power Supply:

The Case:

That's all for now, I've got the hard drives installed in their hot swap trays, and the riser cable in place; as well as the SSD mounted to the bracket, but ran into a snag in the process; the case has extremely low clearance for the CPU heatsink. The stock AMD heatsink is approximately 45mm from the surface of the CPU to the top of the fan, and DOES NOT FIT. Its only 3-4mm shy of fitting, but forcing it into place would cause the motherboard to be shorted to the case; hence ordering the Noctua which is only 37mm in total height!

A couple of important things to note about the case:
The hard drive trays are shipped installed, I think a bit of warping occurred during shipment and some of the trays do not slide perfectly, not all of the faces are perfectly straight either; both manageable issues. From there the case ships with SF-8470 (I believe) SF-8087 breakout cables, in my case I need SF-8484 to match up with my Perc 5/i. Not a huge issue, the cables swap out very easily, there are 3 zipties to cut and they come right out.

Another important thing to note if anybody decides to use this worklog as a reference: 1U PSU's typically have *very* limited connections, with VERY short cables. In my case, the cables WILL NOT reach the motherboard connectors, I have purchased extensions to remedy the issue.

Subbed. This is pretty cool. I might look into doing something similar after my move next month.

I'd be interested to know if this comes in cheaper than a prebuilt 8-bay NAS

In my particular case no; however I have way more CPU power and ram than needed for a nas and better throughput than any prebuilt. That said this also hosts game servers and transcodes media.

Small text update, no pictures yet.

I got the heatsink in, had to mount it sans backplate as it wasn't compatible with the board, seems fine. Ran into some space issues, and there's basically no such thing as cable management given the space constraints, things are mostly together but it doesn't look pretty inside.

I'm quite interested in this case, do you have any sources that I would be able to buy one from? Google isn't being very helpful.
