Pagefile

I built a new system with about 32G of RAM. For some funny reason, I was still seeing a lot a hard disk activity when running some programs. I installed a ramdrive, put my only pagefile on that ramdrive and now some nearly everything is running faster. Does anybody think that just maybe the windows memory manager is not completely infallible and can "make" some bad decisions. I am running windows 7 the 64 bit version by the way. Or can any suggest a sure fire way to prove why what is happening, and just accept what my observations are and try to explain them. I am not looking for someone to just say "That's stupid", or "don't to it." So if that's all you have to say don't even bother posting. I am trying to have civilized thoughtful conversation.

No surprises there.  Why don't you try disabling the pagefile altogether?  I'm curious to see if performance is better with the pagefile in RAM or with no pagefile at all.  I expect performance to be the same.
I run my computers with no pagefile and they've got 4 GB of RAM.  Performance without a pagefile is definitely better than with a pagefile, because Windows pages stuff to the disk regardless of how much RAM is free.  Probably a good idea to keep the pagefile off of a SSD, too (lots of write cycles).

Thanks for the input. I have tried running without a pagefile at all, but I run into some startup problems,. Some are windows services, or at least installed as a windows service in either case the start up really slow, if they start as all.. I as soon I can afford to, im going to purchase a new hard drive to serve as the system drive. The only one I have now is not exactly the fast thing out there is driving my windows experience level down to 5.9 from 7.4. When I do I have clean slate to run a more detailed experiment.
