You have a woderful and marvelous country, but living conditions are rather poor and working conditions are disastrous in many zones. The average apocalyptic slum in my country can be a mid-to-high class well regarded neighborhood in yours, and I know cause I've been in both places. I've drinked with your people, I've eaten with your people, I've partied with your people, laughed with them, even I got laid with your peoplerettes biggrin.gif. I've traveled through it in 8 months probably more than what you will travel in your entire life, and I've not seen anything at all that leds me to believe I've barely scratched its surface.

Hell, I make more in 3 hours than what 40%-60% of your population makes IN A MONTH OF SWEAT AND BLOOD(I'm a very low wage worker in my country, mind it tongue.gif), which is like...500 million poor people? It enrages me to have seen so many wonderful people treated so badly by their own, even more when there's the Untouchables matter. And you come to tell us your country is wonderful and Saint Theresa was there just for S&G and fresh air.
That is a crap load of presumptions you have just made by one post doh.gif

You presume his social class
Presume his education
Presumed you've been to much more places than he'll ever be
Presume that you make more than 40-60% of the population
Presume the amount of poor people in India

Oh, "pressumption" in that sense. Fair enough, sorry for being harsh and ironic. biggrin.gif

On the social class, I totally pressumed it based on my observations and talks with uppity people here and there. For that, I'm guilty. redface.gif

On the places we've visited, I've totally rocked my country and most of Europe/a bit of Asia, never staying in anything above 3 stars(I've slept in parks, beaches and so forth) and always travelling by railroad, bus or car, except arrival/departures in Asian countries, so I'm fairly confident I've traveled more than him and a fair part of the world's population, including you, never avoiding the local population like so many tourist like to do. Get there, look at, get photos, get out, go to a restaurant associated with your traveling agency/guide and get ready to be assaulted by their prices. It's marvelous what you can do with so little money when you can't/don't want to travel like a rare animal(tourist), led by your friendly mahout (elephant caretaker, or animal trainer...guide) from gilded cage to golden plains(hotels to monuments/tourist places and back). For a good tourist dinner in India you can travel for two weeks there, keep it in mind if you go there. biggrin.gif

The third pressumption is actually the United Nations Development Programme and Oxford university pressumptions.

http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2010-07-12/india/28276383_1_measure-ophi-multidimensional-poverty-index

The fourth is totally mine based on the UNDP and Oxford uni data on average monthly income. Guilty again. redface.gif

I've seen how fast changes can be made in your country, but as you say, it's still there. Gives hope to see people are fed up with the current sutiation and are willing to persevere against exploitation, poverty and corruption. It's a hard and long road, but with its prizes.

I took you for a proud person and got carried away by the thought of an Indian denizen denying the harsh reality of his country, and for that, I offer you my sincerest apologies, Sunreeper.

Thanks smile.gif
I was born in Canada so I was never subject to any poverty but as a kid when I would go there I would feel incredibly bad because there wasn't really anything I could do. I think something that is really holding the country back is that its government is still very corrupt and even though its supposedly is democratic it is really easy to just buy your way into a position and then abuse your power.

This is an embarrasment, and not the type of back and forth arguing OCN members should be engaged in. It took all of 3 posts for this to get politically ugly and in no way representative of the original topic. I had hoped our members were more Mature than this.
