Newer hardware use less power not more

1600 watts is insane thats the sort of thing you do with 4 video card with super crazy overclocks on everything as well as the CPU and paly around with crazy cooling

Point is only buy power for what you need unless you know for sure what you are going with dont go overkill

i know what you mean, but if he decide to go quad-fire. then the LEPA G 1600w would be his only PSU of choice.

Quadfiring 7970 now or down the road is a terrible idea. If 1200W is enough for most quadfire 7970 setups then it surely will power two. Besides, it's very likely that his household couldn't even cope with 1.6Kw draw if he ever needed that much power, which he wont.

AndyM95 listed many good units. I suggest you take a look at those.

i see many on here said that their quad 7970's max around 1300-1500w on full load, and you know a quad 7970's are power hungry when they overclock. even a dual 7970's in crossfire maxes around 1000w from the wall when it's overclock.

Which is why I said MOST setups. Not everyone "maxes out" their 7970's voltage wise, plus if it's a good PSU it will allow them peak higher no problem. Readings where the efficiency hasn't been taken into account have near 0 information value.

Thread Starter
Thanks for the help everyone... I ended up going with the Seasonic x1250

Solid

Unfortunately, I am still having the same issue. it did fire up once... then off again...

I had to reloop my GPUs as my new radiator was larger and was just hanging out of the side of the box. it had been this way for months...

tried booting just minimal components

reset cmos

pulled battery

and nothing.

Starting to think it is my mobo or chip. Plan to reset the chip tomorrow. I started having power drop issue after I started folding a couple weeks ago. PC kept crashing (though my chip was stable and prime tested) down hill from there

Other notable issues/**** - onboard sound went a while back, so I bought a sound card. The sound card doesn't fit under the gpu so I broke the grate of the gpu and plug in the sound card speakers this way. sometime the card slips out and the pc crashes. (could this be the problem? it has happened in the past and it worked thereafter). could this card slipping out fry the mobo or cause these problems?

very mad.gif

Edit:
so I let it sit for an hour or so ...it booted it back up. and it fired up to window's ... no overclock .. default settings on bios ...

then crapped out in about 5 minutes. under no lo

for clarity, basically the sound card had slipped out of the pci slot.

I am fearing it is a mobo issue... but don't have anything to test this out with.

will reset the cpu and check all connections tomorrow.
