Yea, I used to think that too, but if your willing to put in the effort, these chips will run P95 just fine.

I started a whole thread about how my chip wouldn't run P95 at stock settings, now I'm running P95 for over 12 hours at 4.6GHz.

It seems the biggest hurdle for most FX owners is coming to the realization that it takes much more voltage than they expected, but with proper cooling, its not an issue.

Well at least on p95 tongue.gif IBT is better recommended as a stability test biggrin.gif

Essentially, it helps to combat vdroop (voltage droop) under load. As the CPU starts doing more work, and wants to pull more power, the voltage can drop. LLC will try to keep up with the load demand of the CPU by slightly increasing voltage in order to keep up with demand.

At idle, my CPU sits around 1.42v, but under full load it goes as high as 1.48v with my LLC set to Auto and thats where I need to be in order to be stable with my 4.6GHz overclock.

Get to where you can make 10 runs of IBT on MAX, then try for 8 hours of OCCT. If your still good, then go for 8-12 hours of Prime95. That last one will be the trickiest to get stable on your FX chip, but if you can do that, you can rest assured you've got a solid overclock.

Huh. That's weird. When LLC is set to auto the voltage goes from 1.36 to 1.28-1.32 when I click start for IBT.

set the llc to high.
the chip should oc to 4ghz with 1.284v.
my cpu will fail hyper pi with everything on auto at 3.1ghz with 1.36v, but with all the powers saving junk off and turbo off (except c'n;q), its stable at 4ghz with less voltage.

please monitor your temp with hwmonitor and cpu-z for reading clocks,

70c of any cpu temp [cpu or core temp] is max for the FX4xxx and FX6xxx
and 61c of any cpu temp [cpu or core temp] is max for the FX8xxx,

then....

one: go in to bios, hit del at start-up till you get to a blue-grey screen before windows.

two: go to the advanced tab, then go in to cpu config and disable cool and quite and everything there on that tab.(c1e,c6 state, hpc and apm (application power management))

three: press esc and go down one to northbridge, go in there and theres one thing to go in to , there you will see ECC enabled, disable that.( happens on asus mobo's)

now for the overclock......

four: got to the ai tuner tab of bios and change it to manual from auto.

five: got to cpu ratio and change to 20 x

six: disable turbo core

seven: go to ref clock and change to 200

eight: change your ram to the right speed, 1600mhz or whatever and set your ram timings.

nine: go to cpu load line calibration and change to high (I use ultra high on my m5a99x evo and on the sabretooth i found it to be medium)

ten: go to cpu voltage change to manual and change that to 1.29v (1.325v is stock).

eleven: got to power options and go to bottom of the tab and set your fans up.

twelve: save overclock to profile.

now got to that last tab in bios save and exit.

you should now boot at 4ghz and be near stable under full load.

download cpu test programs

hyper pi is a memory test program, but it runs cooler than most cpu tests and will usually crash with os still running.
good for instantly knowing if your cpu is nearing stability.

occt is stability test program, will usually crash hardware and software if cpu/system is unstable.
good for long term oc tests.

need to test your cpu load line config with a heavy load ,use hyper pi, watch your voltage and give it a 1m test, what voltage do you get under full load?,
now move you load line up or down for increases or decreases to voltage and make it level under full load.
if you go extreme llc, lower voltage of cpu as it will climb a bit under load.

now run a full hour cpu test to see if it's stable, I used occt medium test for 2 hours.

i got a nice 4ghz stable at 1.284v at idle and under full load.

I did manage to get six core of the eight up to 4.6ghz with 1.464v showing in cpu-z.
it had heat issues after that, and my mobo is only a 6+2 vrm.

I add to that..
disable everything on the cpu advanced tab c1e, apm,c6 state and turbo core,
leave cool and quiet on and voltage to off set, now change cpu multi to 20 and set cpu llc to high, it should run at 4ghz like that with cpu downclocking and down volting.

I would run a hyper pi and watch voltage of cpu to see if it go's below 1.28v, up the voltage to make up for this ,or up the cpu load line.

oh and set window power options to balanced for downclocking and high performance for flat 4ghz.
found windows power saving option was a fail also.
