I've had two HTC's, Two Moto's, and 1 Samsung. Samsung is at the bottom of my list currently.

I loved both of the HTC's I've had. Thunderbolt and my current Droid DNA. This pains me because although battery life could have been better in the thunderbolt (it was the first 4g phone though. So kinda makes sense that they didn't have it optimized and everything yet) it was one of my favorite phones to date. It was a tank of a phone. I've had my DNA for a few days and I'm in love with it. Display is gorgeous, its blazing fast, excellent reception everywhere I go, aweosme build quality, everything. I can see why everyone is in love with the new HTC One because it is basically the "big" brother to the DNA in the sense that it has a similar unibody design, 1080p screen, and a little bit better hardware.

Hopefully things will get better before they get worse. They need to continue to push the One and market a little better and I think they could easily start biting into Samsungs market share. Also as Xnine mentioned they need to really get behind the modding community and they need to get back in the Nexus game.

Samsung has become the Apple of Android. Seriously getting sick of Samsung in all sectors these days...

We have had a ton of HTC Ones returned with manufacturer defects.

Besides that, no SD card, no removable battery, and a helluva time rooting.

I don't really understand all the love HTC gets - all because of the metal body? Sense is also horrendous.

I used to love HTC had a thunderbolt, moved to a Note II, waiting on a Sony.

reason why HTC is failing
- no sd card slot, because they are greedy and want to sell overpriced 32gb versions
- no way to change battery, because they are greedy and want to sell you a new phone if old battery goes out
but they forget that their competition has both features and people will simply avoid HTC

last reason
- 3 years ago all my friends were htc is cool it works great, year ago the same people, htc no longer makes quality phones the new ones have miserable quality and electronics starts failing

so here are the main reasons, they think their customers are stupid and their quality went down the drain

Last time I looked the iPhone had neither expandable memory nor a removable battery, they also charge more for handsets with larger internal memory and as for over priced... well.

Yet somehow Apple sell a heck of a lot of iPhones compared to HTC One's...

So I don't think that is the reason. It comes down to marketing and market presence, Apple and Samsung have it, Nokia is up there too. Moto and HTC? Not so much.

We still don't really know how well the One has sold. With all the positive press its gotten and the general consensus amongst regular people and professionals alike that its the best phone on the market even after the S4 launched, I'd guess its probably done pretty decently. Too bad they couldn't get it out on Verizon because they would've sold a boatload more....

It's pretty common now for big companies to do absolutely stupid stuff and then sit and wonder why they are dying. Good products shouldn't require a ton of marketing. Sure, Samsung's huge marketing campaign helps but you can overcome that with a BETTER PRODUCT. To sell stuff you have to give the consumer what they want and AT LEAST have the features that your competitors have. No SD slot, no removable battery, God awful sense UI with it's God awful gradients (is this a cartoon show or UI?), pissing off the development community, etc. etc. etc.

To beat the competition you have to succeed where they failed. Samsung's stuff almost always has an SD slot, removable battery, and they like helping the development community (albeit they're getting worse at it). Guess what then? Make a phone with an SD slot, a removable battery, vanilla android, and gain the development community by capitalizing on Samsung's blunders. People will actually be like "gee, android really DOESN'T look like garbage after all when it's stock!" and you can then reap the easier updates. Less time puking your UI over it and putting in gimmick features = less money spent (well no ****). Don't you notice all of the news articles about Samsung's software features overload/bloat and how pissed off people are at the waste of space? Well, exceed where they fail!

I swear some companies these days are so disconnected from their own market and customer base that they should be liquidated.

The HTC One is all about tradeoffs and preferences so you can't really say it's objectively better.

Front facing speakers - very nice, but you have to have a smaller screen to fit them
Camera - good low light performance, but you trade away a lot of detail in good light
Metal unibody - solid build, but you don't have a removable back/battery
