Spilt beer on my 680...

Thread Starter
T'was a sad day. One beer spilt and one dead 680...

I accidentally knocked over a can of beer which magically got to the point where it managed to pour a stream of beer right into the exhaust of one of my 680's (hate myself for getting a raven02 now...). The rest of the system and the other 680 survived somehow, but this 680 took quite a beating. I've cleaned it and put it next to the heater for two days to let it dry up. It appears that it yet lives as of now, but only barely. See pics below...

Im hoping some knowledgeable people here can answer my questions, based on looking at these pictures.

1. The card still has warranty on it, think I could pull off an RMA ?
2. If the RMA fails, do you think it's worth baking the card ?
3. Is there anything else I can do besides RMA/baking the card that might revive it ?

Cheers

Sorry for the pic size..

I just died looking at these photographs. I think your RMA will be rejected, sadly. I do not know much about baking pc components to revive them, but maybe rice could help dry it out. Hopefully running it did not do too much harm to the components.

Ugh. I presume that NVIDIA has some sort of method of seeing if there's any water damage done to the device.. Removing the cooler voids the warranty too. I'd love to open it up to see if what's going on inside but that'll mess up any chance of RMA'ing it.

I didn't put it back in that long. My working 680 is back in now and everything is fine smile.gif

For the love of god man, did you at least take it apart when you "let it dry"??

Take it apart if that does NOT void the warranty and inspect it / clean it with Isopropyl alcohol. From there you can attempt an RMA.
If there isn't any actual noticeable damage, such as exploded caps or burned marks, it may not be replaced but offered a repair, which is still cheaper than a new card.

Probably a silly beer, seeing as it didn't totally kill the card.
A man's beer would have made the 680 explode, followed by exotic ladies to come and sooth your woes, by replacing your beer!

I've put it on top of a heater for 2 nights straight with the temp cranked up pretty high. Cant say for sure if it dried everything up ofcourse, but as far as I know removing the cooler voids warranty. So any chance that I'd have left would be already wasted then.

I'll see if it actually voids the warranty or not.
