Most are refreshed silicon yes, but the fact that they are called the GTX700 makes them the new generation. AMD could have very well called the 7970GE the HD8970 and it would technically be a new generation of GPUs.

well i do not buy the naming scheme as meaning a different generation - look at the mobile market; same exact chip slightly raised clock speed and BOOM new gen?

not for this guy.

Nvidia got us. No question about it (assuming all the prices and specs are true). You won't find me trying to defend otherwise. As I said a page or so back, I hope they enjoyed it because it will be the last time I listen to them tell me something is going to be "one of a kind."

It was a joke.... (though I do plan on modding)

I don't need any mods in order to have a faster card than the 780, a titan will easily bench higher, I just want to do the mods because I consider hardware a hobby. I'm not annoyed at all about the 780, just happy GK110 gets to more people.

If you thought about the Titan as an investment or a value purchase or something then yes, nvidia got you. They made you think you were buying something you weren't really buying. Those of us who bought it because it's the fastest and those of us who wanted it just because we wanted it wont mind at all.

The fact that the 780 gets the same cooler as the titan adds insult to injury lol. Anyways, i'm glad Nvidia made the 780 such a beast, Give AMD alot of motivation to make their HD8970 superior to it if they want to take that crown back thumb.gif and if they exceed GTX780 performance the titan will be in the rear view mirror as well.

Kind of hurts their biggest fans and early adopters the most.

7970 price:performance is still holding strong, very impressive for such an old SKU.

Please don't feel bad for the people that bought the Titan. Their money is already spent and they will get over it. Feel bad for entire PC gaming community that will be paying Nvidia's monopoly premium from this point onward, with successively higer prices wth every new gpu release redface.gif

I don't think hard mods are going to be necessary to beat the 780's honestly...

How long have you been following the industry?

Personally I'm beginning to get tired of this "set a precedent" nonsense that people spew around without knowing their history beyond Fermi and cayman or something....

You guys are right that the collective willingness to pay of the market determines the price, but you are absolutely fooling yourselves if you don't think that there isn't a conditioning aspect to the collective willingness to pay of the market (which in turn determines prices).

I keep seeing people say that once AMD does this and that prices will come back down. I'm here to tell you that they will not. People gave that excuse about the 690, and even though the 7990 is 18 months late to the party (compared to 7970) they parked it right up there at $1K alongside the 690. Competition is only going to drive prices down if it is priced lower, and given what they've done with the 7990 I think they are going to take the collude rather than compete route. Just my opinion.

Exactly. I wanted something so i bought it. If something else comes out a few months later that is almost as good / better at a cheaper price, well thats technology for you.
