I hope price stays €650 or lower in Netherlands so I can pick it up right away without slowing down on getting z87 mobo+4770k processor

Yep... I can easily see how thebski assumed what he did, and the 780 comes so incredibly close to the Titan that, for most people who aren't Donald Trump or Bill Gates, paying an extra $350+ for ~2 months of extra use really would feel like the rug got pulled out a little, since it was hyped up to be the best card for awhile and in a class of its own. I can't say honestly I was thinking there would be a 7xx card that's basically a scrap away in most tests (negligibly so) either, so soon. Regardless of all that, though, it's silly to tell someone they can't or shouldn't be upset unless it's just completely maniacal of a reason, and that certainly is not.

I would love to see a lightning version, but i don't think Nvidia will let them. I think a highly clocked lightning 780 would be better then a $1000 Titan. Crossing my fingers. tongue.gif

Then you have the 700 SERIES, 600 SERIES, 500 SERIES, etc.

In the world of cars and trucks you have the Ford F SERIES, BMW 3 SERIES and 5 SERIES, etc....

Nvidia didn't lie, not one bit. If you thought Titan was going to be some monster one of a kind to never be surpassed, that is your own personal problem and I would recommend further research.

You will listen and claim it isn't part of a series because a name says so. As I indicated in the post you responded to, I guess I just assumed it would not be part of a series by more than just namesake. In other words, I assumed it would be differentiated from the 700 series by more than the name. As I have now stated in this thread three times, that is my own fault. I assumed too much.

And I did think the Titan wouldn't really be touched until Maxwell. I didn't think we'd see another 384-bit card. I didn't think we'd see an entire series released with the "premium" cooler. I thought Titan would be differentiated by more than just name, yes. And you are right, that is my own personal problem, and I take full responsibility for it.

Edit: And since you're so intellectually superior to me, I may as well use this opportunity to try to better myself. What websites should I have read or research should I have done that would have showed me that the 780 to be released in 3 months was going to be exactly a Titan (down to the cooler) with a few less shaders and VRAM? I would love to know so I am not subjected to the same mistakes again in the future. Thanks.

I want my ghost edit answered by PostalTwinkie. What research was available that I didn't do? Dying to know ...

There's no reason they wouldn't allow it since we're already seeing custom cards (see the source for example). The thing is that you wont have any voltage control beyond what the reference card will offer (680 lightning isn't an argument here, after that and the 680 classy Nvidia tightened greenlight pretty hard) so unless you're ready to hardmod and go LN2 with it it's pretty much a pointless purchase. Unless you're buying it for the cooler that is.

He has a right to be upset, just not at anyone but himself like he said. It was his decision and voluntary choice to buy Titan, which is STILL the best single GPU solution available. Nothing about the GTX 780 changes that.

You are right Tiger. Although no Donald or Bill, I can laugh this off easily. But, there are people who probably saved for months to get this card, and to tell them to shut up and just take it, is callous.
