You might "know" someone who you THINK re-bought the console because they were invested, I BOUGHT a new xbox 360 because it was superior to the ps3 and wii for what I wanted out of console. (and I already owned a PS3+Wii)

We're bringing anecdotal evidence into it now? The only reason I got my second 360 was because I already had Rock Band/Guitar Hero songs on my 360 account that I'd have to rebuy, the guitars and a bunch of games...The only reasons I got my 3rd 360 were the DLC and games I had and because it was on sale and I got 4 games, a kinect (At the time I thought it might have been useful, but it's been sitting there doing virtually nothing since) and 320GB HDD for the price of a normal PS3. If Target hadn't had it on sale then (I believe it was literally like 75% off for the bundle) I'd have just gotten a bunch of things for my PS3 as well as a decent sized SSD for it.

I also have a PS3 slim, the exclusives are far better IMO. Halo has a decent story but meh gameplay, Gears of War is kinda fun and Forza is amazing, but they don't compare to Infamous, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, etc. (Forza is better than GT this gen mind you)

You do realize that's mainly because 1) additional CPU performance isn't worth the time invested on PC due to each core being so fast and that 2) The 360 had 3 cores/6 threads...Games used that up pretty well.

Biiiiiig difference here though, the PS3s is theoretical power...Which is harder to get than the 360s so it ends up even, here, both consoles run the same (Or at least a very similar) architecture but the PS3 just has more. Sony got a HD7850 and MS got a HD7770, that's the difference here...Not a new type of CPU that may perform better than the 360 if you can code well.

In terms of realistic, easy to get performance, the 360 is ahead of the PS3 as its GPU is quite a bit faster once you take the Unified shaders (Something introduced with the 8800GTX for PCs) which is why a number of 360 games have minor differences...This is a much bigger thing, expect the exclusives on PS4 to look a hell of a lot better IMO. Also, the PS4 has 7GB of RAM for games...XBOne has 5GB and a 10% GPU overhead.
It's not about hardware though, it's about the games on that hardware.

Then again, Kinect 2.0 seems better than PS4 Eye.. maybe the X1 package won't be much cheaper LOL

It doesn't matter in the end though, AMD is on both sides of this and they'll profit regardless.

I must say that I'm happy this happened. biggrin.gif Gives me hope that AMD will prosper again. ^_^

If they had stuck with 1080P these system would be fantastic, but targeting "4k" resolution on a GPU with a little less power than a GTX 660 (non Ti) is going to limit them to 30 FPS at best, with the equivalent of medium settings. The card comparison is based of the TFLOPS Sony has said their GPU was capable of.

The image below is with two EVGA Superclocked GTX 680s in SLI. Source: http://chipreviews.com/cpu/frostbite-2s-limit-6-core-performance-in-battlefield-3/

So even at 1200p the GPU in the console would be incapable of a constant 60 FPS in an engine that's being replaced in the next 6 months. Maybe not even a constant 30 FPS.

Then the developers either have to code for an octo-core CPU, and include HSA usage if the CPU isn't up to the task (the GPU is already quite powerful).

Both which are easier to code for, than the PS3's odd CPU.

For the 4K res, that's just very, very optimistic marketing. I'd say it gets upscaled to 4K from 1080p.

I've heard complaints about the Xbox 360 or the PS3 sounding like a jet engine taking off when their hard drive was full, and the console was reading all of the data off the discs.

Some people store more on their drive than just saved games. That's like saying because you can play a game with only 2 gigs of RAM, no one else should ever have a reason to need more.
