The n64 controllers did have one fatal flaw: the joystick slack. After awhile, they would become loose and loose until they wouldn't even sit straight lol. The stock gray was the most prone it seemed, though that could be because everyone had to buy the colored ones as replacements.

My joystick was perfect till a game called Mario party came out, god did the mini games ever destroy the slack on the joystick, that game was so addictive when it came out, I hate how nintendo stop competing with the big boys and goes for gimmicky motion control and very weak consoles..

To add.... they also have to deal the memory architecture differences.

PS4 uses a big pool of fast memory.
XBox 1 uses a small pool of VERY fast memory and a pool of decent memory.

The optimization for these architectures will be different.

Not to mention, $$$ doesn't pour in from the hardware, that's up to the software, which the 360 wins hands down.

But ultimately Sony's worst selling console is out selling Microsoft's best selling console. I wonder how many of the Xbox numbers represent the people who had to buy multiple consoles due to failure?

First, the PS3 isn't outselling the Xbox360. Second, Xbox 360 sells WAY more of the same game.

So, from this info, it's a clear-cut sign Xbox 360 is superior.

and If someone re-buys a system, that means they must really like it.

PS3 may not have had as many issues as the Xbox 360 with RROD but the PS3 was far from perfect. I had three friends who had to repair their PS3 due to disc reading errors.

RROD is something that I am very familiar with but it would have to take a lot more than that to take me from the community I have learned to love. If I was given the opportunity to communicate with PS3 players my opinions may change but the only time people had Mics was when I was playing with my friends. Otherwise no one is plugged in or some little kid is rapping or yelling at people.

I like to think that the monthly payments remove the children who can't afford to pay their own memberships.

I suppose those people that bought multiple consoles also bought multiple copies of their games too rolleyes.gif

MS didn't lose as much $$ per console at launch, gained incredible grounds on Playstation (something people would not have believed in 2005), huge revenue from Xbox Live, higher games sales, and for us gamers, typically better quality platform games.

In context of their positions, Xbox 360 was a success.

In context of Sony Playstation's brand, the PS3 was mediocre...certainly not a grand slam.

Apparently there are more total sold PS3's than 360's. http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/10/report-ps3-surpasses-xbox-360s-worldwide-shipped-total

Not bad for a console that released a year later! plus you have to remember that a chunk of 360 hardware sales was down to replacement consoles.

Anyway, I owned both and in my opinion, the PS3 is the more thought about, finished and superior games console. The 360 does the software unsurprisingly well, considering it's built by a OS company. I think overall I just prefer the Japanese approach to designing a games console. It seems to have more depth.

I don't think the rest of the world shares such a high view on Xbox as perhaps Americans, afterall it is homegrown and caters mostly to that market. I found that it lacked originality and was bland. The games were severely repetitive, and most of the time on PS3 as well. As I said before, with all due respect, I think the Japanese simply do it better. It's like how Italians design cars, they just have a certain creative flair which is often lacking in it's functional rivals.

Refer to my last post. As said, neck and neck despite the Xbox's year head start. Anyway, before we start, preference is not debatable so shouldn't be argued. Let's leave it at that.

For perspective, the PS2 sold 100 million consoles in a little less than 6 years. From 2006 till now, it's sold another 55 million.

PS3...no where near those numbers.

It's obviously your opinion, but how could you think the PS3 was a superior game console?  With developers publicly loathing about developing for the console, its inferior multiplayer platform, and high percentage of inferior multiforms (which are some of the best games), I think it's a tough choice.  The only reason I'd tilt a hat to PS3 is for it's Bluray, but even then, it still requires mandatory installs and continuous updates. Just my point of view.
