I plan to eventually. I am waiting on my order of thermal paste to get in before I do anything. The stock fan on this thing is stupidly loud. HWMonitor shows it buzzing along at 4800rpm in game! I am pretty sure my old 120mm cooler will fit. its labeled AM2, but from what I have read, AMD hasnt changed the configuration at all.

thats correct am2/am2+/am3/am3+ are all equal

Awesome! Thank you for the clarification. Might I also add that this config is a breeze to install versus the stupid push and twist things LGA775 had. The stock fan was so insanely easy to put on in comparison.

No argument here, AMD has stuck with a similar retention mechanism for years, Intel mountings are a pain, 90% of the time you have to remove the mobo for an aftermarket solution.

Very good job! i had a similar situation when i went from my 775 (Q8200) to my i7 2700k i used my old gtx 260 and all of a sudden... the card was doing all this crazy crap i had no idea it could do and to think i was arrogant enough to be running them in SLI >.< thinking i was a beast oh gosh... 35 fps in witcher 2 and battlefield had me rocking out like i won the internet

yep that's what i always hated about intel stock fans.
good thing you jumped straight to a 6core. Going for a core2quad might have held you back a few fps
