[Daily Tech] Apples Tries to Use Decade-Old Patents to Ban Samsung Galaxy S IV - Page 4

wait till the family of the guy who patented patents turns around and whoops apple in the rear.

Cmon guys, what can apple do? They have become the biggest company in the world, no point of trying to grow or change. Apple doesn't innovate because it is the most profitable much like cod does, trying to appeal to different audiences will just piss of your current fans.

Did xerox patent? seems like they came up with everything but they are non-existent now , such a shame to see the actually innovators fall because of their openness.

In what way does Xerox not exist anymore? They're a Fortune 500 company, hardly nonexistent.

Lol............

Yeah there is a huge difference between Apple and Samsung. Just remember kids, you take the AVERAGE person in every way shape and form. And then you remember that HALF the people are dumber than that.

And the lawsuit season begins, approximately around the same time as hurricane season.

It is just so sad to see all these other companies infringe on the patents, and build off of the hard work that Apple put in. Apple was the one that brought us what we think of as a modern smartphone, large flat screen with very few buttons and a highly responsive touch interface.

Even though I think Apple could indeed innovate more, innovation is very expensive, and follower companies can adopt these innovations for relatively cheap prices, so the innovative company must continue to spend piles of money to stay ahead. Apple has every right to pursue legal action for patents they have attained.

The first well put together/thought out response to this thread so far. Kudos.

U.S. Patent No. 5,946,647 : "System and method for performing an action on a structure in computer-generated data"

I'm sorry, but, doesn't that just mean they have a patent on accessing computer-data in general?

Who the hell gave them the ok for these patents ._.

Money did. Money is what gets you through the patent system. That's why you see all these great products with "patent pending" on the side.

The problem here isn't Apple, although they have odd business practices (no more so than any other large corporation though, other than Newman's Own) the problem is the patent system. It's archaic and was put into place to solve a problem now, not 100 years from now.

What needs to happen is once a technology becomes common knowledge, like a flat screen, or a rubber tire, then the patent needs to be invalidated. Heres an example:

Someone invents a display for your window, completely clear, you can use your windows in your house or car as monitors or televisions.
They file a patent.
US patent office grants the patent.
Company profits for 2 or 3 years.
Other companies start to copy technology or license it.
It becomes widely accepted that this monitor technology is superior to all others, no company wants to make old panels any more.
Patent office invalidates patent.

Or just no more lawsuits allowed, staff the patent office with some guys who take violations and investigate them, then fine the perpetrator.

Vote for me in 2016
