[NV] NVIDIA Announces PhysX Support for Microsoft Xbox One Game Console - Page 2

Will they use the standard x87 CPU PhysX? Or given the Xbox One the special optimization treatment and ignore the PC users?

EDIT: Would be interesting to see how will a developer implement HSA and PhysX for physics stuff...

They aren't limiting it, AMD is limiting it.

Nvidia offers to license Physx to anyone, for an exceptionally cheap rate, literally pennies per GPU in the case of AMD. AMD simply didn't want to license it and thus, shafted the customers.

AMD stated, at the time that CUDA and PhysX were being added to the 8 series GPU's, that "Open industry standards are extremely important to AMD as a company" and "Havok’s technology is superior".

That decision by AMD has definitely hurt consumers and helped to push NVIDIA to the top of the GPU market. Why Won’t ATI Support CUDA and PhysX?

MS hasnt announced GPU specs yet, they could be running a smexy nvidia chip under the hood.

i do believe thracks said that cuda is basically the same as openCL with a few proprietary parts. AMD GPUs could run Physx if both parties wanted them to.

The issue with PhysX on an AMD chip is a lot of behind the scenes fighting. nVidia has a company is hard to work with and this creates a mess. They have also shown they have no issues backstabbing a paying partner. The scenario I think AMD is worried about is licensing PhysX and then having nVidia release an update that enhances performance on their hardware alone. This BTW is a very believable scenario.

In the end however this announcement is not about nVidia being great people. The reason nVidia jumped at Sony and MS is because they are shut out of the console market and they need to feel relevant. They are concerned about AMD getting all these wins and they want their name somehow attached.

Simply because they have no hands in the console market and need to get in some how.

In the pc market they do not need to be nice. They run the show.
