Help me install Windows 8!!!

I get an error about not being able to install due to it being a MBR disc, so it needs to be GPT?

I don't want to lost data on the other 3 partitions...

I have Biostar 880GZ motherboard if that helps..

I have 1 640gb Hard drive

4 partitions:

  1. Empty (I want to install here)
  2. Music
  3. Steam
  4. Backup

The other 3 I don't boot from, just store stuff. Trying to install tonight!!

I have Gparted ready.

Due to time constraints, I backed up what I really needed (100gb out of 640gb) onto my laptop hard drive using a Live Ubuntu disc.
Then I used GParted to delete, format, and partition it again the way I had it setup earlier. Now it's installing as we speak.

Ubuntu works WAY faster on a LiveCD than a Virtual one...That normal?

make sure you know what partition you are using. format it in windows disk manager during install, select custom install, and you should have no problem installing. The only thing i could see that windows wants you to format the whole drive in which case you should make sure everything you need is backed up on a different drive.

unless you have touch screen windows 8 is kinda a drag compared to windows 7

Why would you have that many partitions on one hard drive? that makes no sense. You need to backup your data and use the whole hard drive as one partition. Makes it easier and better for you in the long run. Backup your stuff on a different drive * external or internal* then run your Windows 8 on that drive and you'll be good to go.

I like to keep everything "modular"

So I did not have to back anything up, I just format the Windows partition, and use the data off the others. This has worked amazingggg for the part couple years.

So I have to format the WHOLE damned thing and back it ALL up? I don't have an extra 640gb drive lyin around...
