Corsair 120 Fans - should I buy into the AF vs SP, or just go all SP?

Was going to make a long post of my specs/situation, but it seemed to just turn into a wall of text

so anyway

ThermalTake Level 10 GT
H100i
ASUS P9X79 Deluxe
Xeon E5-2670
MSi GTX 670 Power Edition

My idle temps are ~40C and load are 75C for the CPU - this seems a little high for a water cooler. All factory clocks (don't think I can OC a Xeon anyway)

I would live with it except that this pushes the H100i fans in the 2k+ rpm range, which is the audible and annoying sound level.

So there's a 120mm fan spot by the PSU and I could replace the H100i's, as well as completely empty drive bays in the front (dont have a DVD drive). I've been looking around and the Corsair fans seem to be one of the best options. Obviously, they market the static pressure for radiators and AF for airflow.

but in Linus's latest video I was watching while bored at work:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roFb3TNePIg

he mentions
"I find static pressure more important than sheer airflow...so I do prefer SP's in almost all scenario's"
and he goes on to use SP's even as case fans

So should I not buy into the AF vs SP marketing? Should I just order all SP fans - for both the H100i and the case fans?

Was about to click the buy button on newegg until I starting thinking this over - now I'm just not sure...

I went all SP Quiet Editions, but apparently the the SP PE will perform slightly better than the SP QE even when fan controlled the the same RPM. All and all I am really happy with the SP's thumb.gif

stock fans from h100i or h80i outperforms SP120s..... by few if you want better performance maybe old h80 fans or these in Question 5(avoding piranha,sp120,blade master 120, helix 120) bcuz they performs a bit worse biggrin.gif

thanks for the replies

so it was driving me nuts seeing an idle of ~40C, and I wanted to take a second look inside before ordering anything (love how opening is so easy with this case)

also saw that the computer kept harassing me for updates, so it was a good chance to shut down

turned my H100i around, took the 200mm exhaust fan from the case that was on top and put it in the 5.25" drive area (with velcro, pretty sturdy actually), and cleaned up some wiring

now my idles are back in the 32C range. idk what did it, but definitely happier now, but still feel it could use one on the bottom to push up

I also noticed that many people were right, the H100i stock fans look identical to the SP fans anyway - and I don't want the LED's. Definitely glad I took a look to notice

so question remains of whether to use SP fans or AF as case fans

there are cheapers like Bgears blaster and they are better case fans biggrin.gif more silent like SileX effizio 12 15 or more powerful like Silverstone FM121 biggrin.gif or even more powerful like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835119161

Always go forhigh sstatic pressure fans over "high airflow" ones, as there is always something restricting airflow, and in the case of the AF120 vs SP120, the latter will create higher airflow velocity which will help to get cooler air in quicker and hot air out faster. There are better fans out there, but if you like the look of the Corsair fans, get the SP120PE.

ah right, that makes complete sense

well most website reviews (as in not a forum post) seem to put the SP120 series ahead of the rest, but I'm open to recommendations. I don't care/want LED's, so the styling means nothing to me (as long as it's black and blends in with the case)

budget/pricing is irrelevant - I don't see an extra 10-15 for a higher performing fan a wallet breaker

Yes, I mean that there are better fans than the SP120PE, but the the SP120PE is a vastly superior fan to the AF120 for any use.
