The choke on top is to filter common mode noise, if your PSU is rather noisy (i.e Crappy or not on recommended list) it might kill everything in short order
The cap on the bottom is filter switching noise, same explanation as above but also a way to balance voltages since the PSU might dip heavily in voltage when under heavy load from a GPU

Sorry, should have specified these cables belong to a Silverstone Strider 850W Gold Evolution.

Will it be ok to remove them from this power supply.

I plan on powering two GTX 780s and the new haswell CPU a couple of HDD's and watercool.

Okay ... I guess it's probably okay to remove the inductor before you sleeve them. As for the cap ... I don't think so redface.gif

Yes it's fine to remove both. If in doubt, contact Silverstone themselves. They will tell you that this PSU is compatible with their alternative cable sets like PP05 and PP06. Those alterrnative cables do not have the capacitor nor the ferrite ring, yet the PSU will remain within ATX spec while using them.

Looks like I've got a third question.

I just sleeved my first cable and putting it in the PSU side connector I notice that it sits further back than the other cables, is this normal? or should I give it another go and move it back?
It's in the bottom Left connector, you can just see it.

Turns out it wasn't even in the whole way, heated it up and it went in much smoother and it reaches now biggrin.gif

---

So I'm sleeving this 8 pin and it goes like this

It's messy and it crosses over each other.

I'm wondering if it's ok to put it like this, or will this be dangerous? (same colour for the cables just swapping the spots on the opposite connector)

Not at all dangerous, it's fine to swap same-coloured pins with each other. The yellow wires are 12V and the black wires are ground. Inside the PSU and inside the GPU all the yellow wires are connected back into one, as with all the black wires. So as long as you don't put a yellow pin in a position meant for black, there's no problem.
