He never said the components are more powerful. Having low level access the the GPU and not having to deal with an API over a shell takes away most of your bottleneck when it comes to performance. That is exactly why consoles can do so much with so little. They can also better alot memory thanks to this so even 2-4gb of ram is an extraordinary amount of breathing room for developers over the 360

Heh, I am not defending EA or trying to do damage control for them. I just want people to understand this.

They would in any situation that made use of the CPU and GPU sharing memory since the PC would not be capable of that. What the consoles have is what AMD has on their PC road map for 2014. Hence they are a generation ahead.

So if we look at what the consoles can do with HSA and such we will see what it might do on PCs. In fact I am a little worried. If games started to require the HSA aspects the consoles have in them we might need to have HSA capable PCs to play any ports...meaning Intel is out in the cold unless AMD lets them buy a license for it.

Yes I suppose it is possible that these new consoles could be on par as your rig or mine. But remember that the gtx 570 is like almost 3 years old. So basically you just said the "next gen" consoles are on par with a gaming machine from 2010.

Case in point thumb.gif If you're a true gaming enthusiast, you game PC.

It's this kind of rhetoric that is repeated ad-nauseam around this forum. You're not superior for playing on a PC. I play mostly fighting games which are almost exclusive to consoles. I remember playing Donkey Kong, and Mario Brothers in the arcades and at Chucky Cheese Pizza. I've used the Neo Geo, the virtual boy, Genesis 32x, Panasonic 3DO, The Atari Jaguar, Macintosh, Windows, PS3, 360, modern PCs, and the TI-85 calculator. A real gaming enthusiast plays a multitude of platforms and can recognize truly great entertainment is timeless and is best played on the platform it was intended for. Take a look at what goes on in the fighting game community and everyone here would probably have a new found appreciation for console based gaming.

Back on topic though.

This guy is just spewing hyppe, while I do game primarily on consoles there is no way the new generation is superior hardware wise. He's just hyping the stupids. Better than a mid-range PC? Probably for the next year, that I could see. The high end gaming machines at Best Buy are mid tier at best around here, to a true PC enthusiast the sky (and your bank account) are the limits when it comes to building a top tier machine.

I am kind of surprised that they made a Media add-on for Windows 8 now though...and gave it out for free no less. That probably is competing with Xbox one in the media machine and HTPC area.

It's not free or if it was, it's not anymore. I had to shell out $10 for the add-on just for it to give me playback error and require me to minimize and maximize the screen in order to fix it.
