449.99? I can pick up a stock 7970 for about €300. GTX 780 for €570. So nearly double.
But tbh, if I had 680s instead of 7970s, I would hold off for a while anyway.

I don't think you are dreaming at all. I'd guess end Q3, beginning Q4.

They wont match the 780 level though. It gonna be just a rebrand of 7000.

Only the OEM 8000s are rebrands.

The proper next gen GPUs have almost no info of.

AMD released a presentation saying HD 7900 series stable throughout 2013 , the actual slide showed till Q3 2013. the earliest for a next gen HD 9970 could be Oct 2013. AMD might have a 28nm or 20nm HD 9970 Volcanic Islands with 256 bit GDDR6 memory.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6751/amd-reiterates-2013-gpu-plans-sea-islands-beyond

Looks like TSMC 20nm will not be in volume production till Q2 2014. TSMC in their Q1 2013 earnings call stated that Q2 2014 20nm production volume will be 2%. for comparison 28nm production volume in Q4 2010 was 2%.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/other/display/20130121093033_TSMC_s_Sales_of_28nm_Chips_in_Fourth_Quarter_Totaled_Nearly_1_Billion.html

so AMD might have a significantly improved Volcanic Islands architecture with GDDR6 on 28nm. The reduction of the memory interface won't affect bandwdith as GDDR6 will support 9 - 10 Ghz speeds providing same bandwidth as 384 bit GDDR5 memory bus at 6 Ghz. At 420 - 440 sq mm with 3072 sp, 64 ROPs and a 256 bit memory GDDR6 bus and more optimized GCN architecture AMD can easily get upto 40% more performance than HD 7970 Ghz. AMD's 20nm products might arrive only in June or July 2014. Seeing Nvidia has released GTX 700 series only now, the GTX 880 Maxwell could launch in June or July 2014.

And what if this did happen but AMD releases the 9970 @ $649 with a game bundle? biggrin.gif

What if AMD's strategic plan was no competition this year because they knew Nvidia would set 700 series prices higher so both companies would benefit in the future.....wink.gif

No it wouldn't matter AMD's 7970 for example is a bigger die area card with more transistors, vram etc that cost more to produce than the standard GTX 680 and performs a fair bit better than the 680 but AMD price it better as well as bundle with awesome games to remain competitive.

Nvidia do give you less for more cost, this is because the halo cards like Titan etc are very powerful, that gives a rainbow effect to the rest of the product stack.. So a person buying a GTX 670 even though the 7970 is the same price, they will think the GTX 670 is better because Nvidia have the fastest card i.e the Titan, therefore 'Nvidia is best' without considering that the Titan is priced ridiculously, and AMD are giving more for your money...

With that said, the GTX 780 is a very nice card indeed, when the price hike dies down and they go under £500 it is a good option tbh. Would be nice if just one time Nvidia could put out a good solid card and not price it through the roof, sadly I don't think we will ever see it now. AMD are rumored to be bringing a monster card the 9970 next, that will shake up prices for sure. Problem is where do AMD price it if it beats the GTX 780, Nvidia have set an unusually high price precedent by being greedy with the 780's..

What is the original price in Euros? 620-650?

With shipping, still cheaper than most of the cards with original prices.
