The best 780 should never be able to even touch the worst Titan, unless the price difference was marginal and/or the Titan should have been named something like GTX785.

We thought they were rumors but they turned out to be true. So either he had info or he made a really lucky guess.

Don't remember his username now though.

Yes, it was indeed Masked.

But what if it was a lucky guess and he steers us wrong next time.....tongue.gif

This is definitely one of the weirdest gens we've had in a while. I'm on the fence about getting a 780 out of principle. But in the grand scheme of things, it's not like me NOT buying it will make a big difference, ha ha. i'm just not a fan of this current price paradigm, and it all began with GK104 selling as a 680.

I hate sounding like I'm always blaming AMD, but man, them not sticking to their yearly release cycle didn't help this gen.

An 8970 20% faster than 7970GE would've kept the 780 at $499.
So true. I will for sure be listening to Masked more closely with his future "predictions". He had both a Titan & 780 before Titan released, and he did say people should wait. With so much speculation that gets thrown around all the time, you never know who truly has insider info.

Word on the street is we may see a 790 sometime this year. wink.gif

No idea how that will be priced though...
Well played on selling your Titan, by the looks of it the 770 will come in between $399 - $499. I honestly wouln't be surprised if it's $450 - $500, simply because early leaks show it's faster than 7970GE.

About the warnings, I am almost certain he is talking about Masked...

Oh well, I lucked out and got rid of my Titan. Live and learn. Great card, but the 780 made it pointless for gaming on a single gpu.

Also ~ And a big, also -- Just because samples exist, doesn't mean it's going to happen...

Take for example 780 vs Titan...redface.gif saying that was expected, particularly in that order, would be a lie.

A new review has cropped up... http://www.overclockers.com/evga-gtx-780-superclocked-acx-graphics-card-review In-depth review with tests of 1241mhz oc'd 780, thoughts against oc'd Titan, and stock vs. OC benches. It has noise testing and temp testing as well with very impressive results, both performance and acoustically. And yes, they do use manual fan speeds.

Of course, TITAN can be overclocked, and it reached the 1050-1150 MHz range in Jeremy’s review for a score of 9796 in 3DMark’s Firestrike benchmark. However, the GTX 780 SC ACX exceeded 1200 MHz when overclocked and was able to score 9859 in Firestrike. So, even OC -vs- OC, the GTX 780 SC ACX does very well against its bigger brother TITAN.

Cooling performance is superb, only reaching 79 °C when manually setting the lowest possible fan speed of 39%. EVGA’s claim of 15% quieter operation with their Active Cooling Xtreme than with the reference design cooler holds true, and even a little better in my testing. I’d say the sweetspot for the ACX cooler would be running it at around 60% for a good combination of low temps (62 °C) and low noise.

I found the curve plots of noise vs. temperature particularly interesting.

Surprising results here in the synthetic tests. The EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX at stock beats the TITAN at stock in ALL of the synthetic tests. The culprit of these unexpected results is most definitely the difference in the Boost Clock of the two cards. Our TITAN sample boosts from 837 to 1006 MHz while the GTX 780 SC ACX boosts from 967 to 1110 MHz, so the GTX 780 SC ACX has a 104-130 MHz advantage over the TITAN at all times. The HD 7970 tries to keep up in 3DMark03 and 3DMark Vantage, but the newer and more GPU-bound the benchmark is, the further it falls behind.
