thanks, as I figured, the sli setup is like butter compared to CF. Sure hope those promised AMD drivers are out real soon and help things

No, the graphs really don't lie there... Kaltenbrunner is correct. Objective data is pretty damning for crossfire currently.

I didn't say 5% would become 0%, in fact I specifically said it will *NOT* necessarily happen. You guys have been flaming so hard, so long, at me for discussing the 5% difference, though, that you have lost sight of what's even being written here. Bottom line is Titan is pointless in today's market even existing for purchase other than 4k UHD setups or 7680 surround. I'm glad you enjoy yours, that's what counts.

That's how to keep both parties happy.

Exactly, that's what I've been trying to get across in this thread, but... they simply don't want to accept it and keep giving "Does not compute!" errors back at me eek.gif . ~5% is so small it makes no difference at all when using the cards... and I paid $617 for mine shipped with a nice custom cooler that beats the reference Titan one by a mile thermally & acoustically. As I said, the Titan is a nice card, but it really has no place in today's market, due to the 780 being within spitting distance and an obscene amount cheaper.

That's never been the argument here, the argument was that the 780 is pretty much the same thing at $650 vs. 1000.

Holy jumbo thread batman.

To be honest I agree with alatar. He's just saying it is inherently faster. No one is saying titan is a great overclocker nor is it cost effective.

Its like buying m5 vs m3. Both cars have great luxury and handling. M5 just is bigger and has more horse power. Is it worth to buy m5 over m3 for 100hp? Debateable. You can tweak the m3 to be faster but no one will disagree that m5 is faster inherently. Maybe bad analogy but let's not fight were all in the green team

And nobody has heard about the crossfire issues before right? Just because it's true doesn't mean it isn't blatant AMD bashing.

You're complaining about discussion about video card solutions in a video card thread? The issues are brought up because they are there. How is it AMD trolling to simply mention major feature differences when talking about what to buy?

All I'm saying is that card X is 13% faster than card Y clock for clock and that card Y clocking 3% higher than card X doesn't close that gap to 0%. Don't really see how this is hard to understand.

Except that's not true, and I have yet to see tests indicating a 13% IPC difference. The Titan typically hits about 1150, give or take 10mhz, stable at best other than "makes it through a bench if I try" speeds with hairdryer fan levels. The 780, at least from the results so far, pretty consistently hits at least 1210mhz. Saying "but an equally clocked titan wins" is irrelevant since these cards appear to (as I keep reminding you, it's too early to call) clock higher in general. Stop misquoting me: I have not said it *is* faster, I have said that it is about 5% slower and therefore effectively nil in usage differences. I have never said the 780 is faster outright. So, stop arguing as though I have.

EDITed to fix some butchering of sentences during a prior edit.

Amd is leading on single-GPU frame pacing on this gen cards.

Amd promised that CF fix will be available on june/july driver.
Until then radeon pro the best solution for CF fix and quality.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7990-devil13-7970-x2,3329-11.html
"Aside from a few dropped frames and a handful of spikes when the test changes scenes, our dual-Tahiti card enjoys much smoother sailing. In fact, the end result is often better than what you'd see from a single graphics card, with virtually no micro-stuttering left.

The RadeonPro software is more complicated to use than Nvidia's hardware-based solution because you have to manually create a new profile for each and every game. But the results speak for themselves. This is nothing short of a revelation for the folks who pin the scalability of their gaming machines on multi-GPU configurations, but hate the idea of micro-stuttering. John Mautari, the utility's developer, deserves big thanks from the crew at AMD, to be certain. "

I am not in the market for a new video card as I like to upgrade when I can get a 70-100% increase in GPU speed. I think a gtx 780 reasonable price is $450-500 with 1.05ghz 7970s going for $400. Assuming the 780 is only 16-20% faster than 7970+4 free latest blockbuster games, it is just not anything much exciting 1+ year later. If Titan is darn abominable overpriced, then 780 is also hugely overpriced card.

I had my 780s at 100% fan speed last night, they are literally inaudible compared to reference 7970s at 90+% fan speed:o

7970: ~$430 average on newegg at this point with four games that you can buy for $20 on forums. So we can call the effective price if you needed the games as 410, but I'd say many already have them.

GTX 780: ~$650 for ~20%+ more performance. This is a 51% price increase, but not completely nuts considering the premium high-end products often carry in price-performance and that some people prefer nvidia, which helps mitigate the pricing factor to them.

GTX Titan: $1000 for ~5% more performance. This is a 54% price increase. For one fourth of the gain further.

Which one looks out of place? I think virtually everyone would answer the same thing.

A reference 7970 at 50% fan speed was like a hairdryer on low. 90%+ would probably have your system about to take off for orbit, but I didn't ever try that high when I had mine... but what does this have to do with what I posted, other than being a tangent? If you're going to pick one sentence randomly to talk about from my post, take this one: "Stop misquoting me: I have not said it (780) *is* faster, I have said that it is about 5% slower and therefore effectively nil in usage differences. I have never said the 780 is faster outright. So, stop arguing as though I have."
