No thanks, I'll just keep the faster card. Let's see if a 780 can come within 10% of the thing tongue.gif

All the cards have a reference design but there are higher clocked versions.

The Titan AMP edition for example offers 6.3% more perf out of the box than the normal Titan. Which is more than enough to put it above the windforce 780 that's clocked really high and has little OCing headroom...

Is there a real advantage to buying these already overclocked if I plan on letting boost 2.0 do the work at first? I mean, if I had the temperature headroom available, wouldnt a regular card clock itself up to the same clocks as the superclocked ones? I figured it would considering its only a $10 difference, could be a gimmick. Most factory overclocked cards are usually $50 more
The evga acx card is well worth it for the gangster cooler alone. That ichill card I saw earlier is also pretty sweet.

e: my mistake. I didn't know the Titan came in different flavors with higher clocks.

I'm just arguing against this nonsense about the 780 matching a Titan and all that. It's a great card and as I said tons of times yesterday I love that GK110 is coming to cheaper solutions. Good or all of us.

Doesn't mean that I like misinformation though.

Because you were trying to argue that even if Titan is 25% better that somehow makes it better than 10%, and when it costs 53% more, it's still pretty terrible even if it's 25% faster.

However I admire the marketing here. It's so similar to Titan that people compare it and go "look, it's so close to Titan and it costs so much less!" instead of looking at $400 7970 Ghz and going "so 20% faster and 62% more expensive." It's a good trick, really.

I do not think bringing GK110 to the masses (you do realize this sounds completely elitist with you owning a Titan right? Like, "maybe you poor people can have a crappy Titan too!") is good when it raises the cost of all the cards in a line.

release MSRP:

EDIT: last expensive card was GTX 280, look how GTX 300 series ended up...

GTX 480: $499
GTX 580: $499
GTX 680: $499
GTX 780: $649

One of these does not belong. Considering the change in performance between all of these generations, GTX 780 is probably one of the worst "generational" upgrades considering price ever.

But Nvidia's goal is to make GTX 770 compete with 7970, so Nvidia and fans can go "lol AMD IS DOOMED THEY DONT COMPETE ON THE HIGH END!!!"

Lol man, a Titan is still pretty new. Drop 100$ off its retail price before 780 availability and OCed models start appearing, and you only have to fork 300$ more to whoop its ass in SLI. I would say that +80% more performance for just 300$ it's a steal!!

Except no one is wiling to pay $900 for a Titan. Someone nailed it that its all marketing, and I am just amazed that it never stops in a forum that is supposed to be for the Users.

I think you did some reading between the lines and completely misunderstood every point you read.

I never implied anything about X being worth it other than that being "worth it" is a subjective thing. Whatever suits you.

Secondly I don't think there's anything elitist in saying that the 780 will bring GK110 to the masses. Does being in the minority and being a Titan owner somehow make me a better person or something? No. Does it make me rich? No. Does it mean others can't afford a Titan? No. 780 will just sell more which is why it's a valid statement. No need to read into it for meanings that don't exist.

And yet again, price was never even a part of my posts you replied to and yet somehow your reply is almost entirely about prices? What exactly did you want to reply to? All I claimed was that the 780 is more than 5% slower than the Titan and that it's not 25% faster than the 7970GHz.

And I don't think AMD is doomed even if they don't compete in the high end. It just means that people will have to pay more for high end items. Sucks for consumers that AMD can't bring out products that perform well enough.

Can't decide whether or not now's the time to do an overhaul. I've got a 3770k NIB sitting next to me, and now the 780's out, and Haswell's right around the corner. I'm still on a 930 and 580 SLI, but the only thing that's been able to bring my build to its knees is Metro: LL.

Blame yourself for high cost in gpu, cause you and others prove you will pay for it.

Nvidia cards have always been more expensive, even when the Nvidia cards had less features than AMD cards.

Why? Because people will pay for it.

This is in no way AMD's fault

And I know not everyone bought their Titan...

780 is looking good, should be cheaper though.

780 is looking good, should be cheaper though.
There are a lot of benefits to nvidia that you're leaving out. The drivers and sli profiles are usually released before a new game comes out, while amd is normally after the game is already out. At least in my experience.
