OEM for that is Enhance ElectronicsWarning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
The SilverStone Strider ST1500 is a big beefy 1500W Enhance unit that seems to be generally very well built. The external build quality of this unit is once more very nice and fits with all of the previous SilverStone units we have reviewed. There is nothing flashy, gaudy or eye catching here, just a very well done black slightly industrial motif. The fully modular design is really nice for cable management and the cables are all generally well constructed with full sleeving. The interior build quality of the ST1500 is quite unsurprisingly, since this a 1500W unit, super-sized across the board compared to units of lesser capacity. The topology we find employed here is a more modern design than what we saw with the last unit near this capacity (the Ultra X3 1600W) as it uses synchronous rectification for the secondary. On the primary side though we find that the components are all appropriately sized for the unit's output (which again makes them look huge for a desktop SMPS) and the 4 primary capacitors are provided by Rubycon. The transformers responsible for generating the 12v output are also some of the largest we have seen to date and are situated in the middle of the unit. The secondary side of the power supply shows a nice and tidy integration with capacitors provided by Teapo for standard electrolytics and solid. Coupled with this very nice build quality we find a good, if not out of date manual, and a rather tepid warranty period, for a high end unit, of just 3 years.
The new and upcomming Lepa P series look very nice there will be a 1500 watts version of that
Think it will be a rebrand of the Enermax Platimax but am not sure on thatEdited by shilka - 5/24/13 at 10:39am
