[TR] EA reckons Xbox One and PS4 are a 'generation' ahead of PC - Page 2

I'm sure benchmarks & 3DMark results will dispute that.

PC is 2 generations ahead of PS4/XBox One if anything.

3DMark comparison to a console...? You're really not getting it.

I'm guessing he means next gen console visuals are better than current PC game visuals. Benchmarks don't mean squat in a PC vs Console comparison for obvious reasons. We'll see, it'll be a sad day if these consoles can't best current PC visuals at launch, and still expect another 8 year cycle.

Who still follows and/or cares about what EA says? People never learn.

His words are obviously creating some furor among gamers, but it's worth noting that these comments are aimed at the architecture of the new consoles, such as the use of unified memory which is not currently used on PCs, rather than straight power.

Basically yes and no.

As much as I don't normally agree with Grizzle, he is right here.

They aren't talking enthusiasts ( even though they said they are ) who spend money on our PC's like we do, but rather, the general consumer who buys PC's from Manufacturers such as Dell, HP, Toshiba, Etc. Most of which are using onboard graphics or extremely low end discrete cards that simply can't compare to our PC's.

According to EA's executive vice president and chief technology officer Rajat Teneja, speaking on Linkedin, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are "a generation ahead of the highest end PC on the market."

Thoughts? tongue.gif

Nope!
Must be comparing to smart phones and laptops or something...
Walmart Store Bought PC

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 Graphics
With 2GB dedicated graphics memory

EA are saying that consoles are a whole generation ahead of the highest end PC on the Market

So while I may agree that it might be true compared to Enthusiast custom built systems, it isn't true versus a walmart store bought pc which is probably their Market!

I'd say it's true in a sense at least in terms of the ps4, the unified architecture and memory technology together is what I'm interested in. I'd guess that's the next generation in AMD Apu's.

The xbox one on the other hand is not, it had basically nothing of interest to me.

I say this that the ps4 is "generation" of technology ahead, not necessarily more powerful, or better then our rigs.

While the Xbox one most certainly is not. Uses custom low speed 8 core, 700 stream processors, ddr3... BOOOOORRRRING.

Next Gen launch challenge: Build a "better" (better FPS at same settings/resolution) PC at the same launch price as next gen.

The quote mentions the "highest end" PCs. Its a silly PR comment, nothing more.
