7970 or Nvidia?

Thread Starter
I have owned a few recent graphics cards, starting with an HD 5450, to a 5770, to a GTX 570.

My 570 bit the dust, and I am looking to upgrade. I have done so much research...but I need a human opinion:

The cards I am seriously considering are as follows:

GTX 670 (FTW)
GTX 680

or

Radeon HD 7970
Radeon HD 7950

I hear the 7970 can surpass GTX 680, and the difference is negligible between a 670 FTW and a 680, and the 670 is now the best performance/dollar.

Any input? I am not going o be upgrading for a few years, maybe 2-4, so I would like get the most out of these cards, and SLI/XFire them in the future.

Is the 670 FTW much better than the 7950/7970? I plan on overclocking any card that I get, so if it has the capibility to safely and relatively easily run closer to a higher card, i am okay with that.

budget?

Buy 4 games and get the gpu for free . . .

http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=MSI-7950TF

performance of a 680 for the price of a 660ti.

edit: Code - HONOR15 for 15% OFF.

HeD, is this going to be paired to your Phenom? I've paired a 7970 to my Phenom as a quad at 4GHz and it played BF3 MP in Ultra with 4MSAA. It bottlenecked but my fps were a lot higher than with the 6870. Actually, with the 6870 i was only able to play at medium.

for the best value for money go with HD 7950. HIS and Sapphire are very good options. unlocked voltage and good cooler.

Sapphire HD 7950 flex - 29 cm long
http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=AT-795FLEX

HIS HD 7950 iceq x2 - 31.1 cm long
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161429

these cards can easily overclock to 1150 mhz. at the same clocks HD 7950 is 5% slower than HD 7970. HD 7970 / HD 7950 at 1150 mhz would be faster than a GTX 680 / GTX 670 at 1250 mhz.

I am upgrading to the 6350/8350 within the next month or so, so CPU isnt an issue. Also, I bought a 7950, it was defective (artifacts). i had already activated the free games...but they still let me return it for a full refund. I Love AMD in everything, but I prefer Nvidia when it comes to graphics, better history with me, and i LOVE EVGA's customer support/warranty.

I have The free games already ( 120$ worth for free haha) and with this 310$ refund, I can afford this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127672

a $470 card, the GTX 680. This is gonna have to last me, and eventually in SLI. I have a single 1080p monitor, and usually don't use much AA, if any, and don't plan on changing that, so the 4gb isn't needed for me, although I do like the 3GB on Radeon Cards.

I was looking at the 670 FTW, and save a few, but Im overclocking every card...and I love overkill.

I play Crysis 3 (free)
Bioshock (free)
Metro
HMA
Witcher

All the high-demanding, graphically intensive games, so performance is never enough!

A 7970 OC can beat a GTX 680 OC?

that sounds good to me, but.....I ave not had luck with AMD drivers...and would be willing to pay a bit extra for better driver support, and that nifty new Vsync ;D

i think you are in the wrong forum then. but whatever it is you'll end up buying . . . make sure it has . . . greater than 2GB.

Well, then why ask for an AMD card if you don't want to buy one lol? Wait for the GTX760ti or GTX770 coming at the end of this month.

I ask because there are many many reasons, objectively, why ATI is better, especially for the price. Are the 700 series really coming out that soon tongue.gif

if you want Nvidia wait for GTX 770 coming on 30th. a faster clocked GTX 680 with faster memory.
