[PSU] Call of Duty: Ghosts doesn't use a brand new engine after all - Page 16

LOL A .50 Cal BMG from a Barrett sniper rifle can rip a body in half. It's not a question, I'm 99% sure that it has been done before, but it's not like I aim for sources for that type of information. The .50 cal BMG produces so much force that when the shot is semi-near the target, it will cause SEVERE damage, aka KILL without even being directly on target.

On topic, at the very least, I like the 3 minute developer movie showing off the new dog. That dog looks freaking awesome.

The myth about the turbulence is a falsity. You have to hit the target to wound, it's just that the the wound depends on many factors. I haven't even talked about bullet tumble, is the bullet still straight or tumbling? Variables. This was all brought up because I said that the game's physics and cover mechanics don't accurately portray (summed up) the guns they use. It's a peeve, if you are going to use high power rounds (understatement) than make your game accommodate so.

[edit] errr nvm, I'll find a source eventually - maybe, all afgan vids are removed these days. =S

[edit2] Not going to make a new post, since it's really not required.

http://www.ar15.com/ammo/project/self_defense_ammo_FAQ/index.htm

Most people forget about how large a bullet's temp cavity can become. You also see variances in bullets, the same brand even, in which case some penetrate more before fragmenting.

More to the point, different rounds also give different penetration yaw and cavity size. Depending on the size of the person, I'm pretty certain you could find a bullet that would do as I described. I'm sure it's been seen before too. Add something like tumble (yaw), you might even get to see more fun antics with a .50 caliber bullet. - Again, variables come into play as to how the target gets damaged. You often hear of marines talking about .50 BMG rounds sending body parts in multiple places. Go find yourself a good afgan sniper, what those guns do is a pretty nasty thing.

[edit3] I know, all I can find is http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,508126,00.html?sPage=fnc/us/crime with a quote from a Davis Oliver. Fox blows but you could probably ask him yourself if that statement is credible. So don't believe me? Ask him, he'll tell ya.

You're right, it takes no skill whatsoever. That's why the same team was recently able to win 4 straight competitive events. Clearly this was just a fluke, and they got really really lucky.

How sad is it that this engine needs to be around for another console cycle (7-8 more years) just because these guys are a bunch of cowards/lazy ******** that think that by changing the engine the game will play so differently and it won't be CoD anymore.

Keep on going, Activision. Maybe we can get this heavy modified engine up to 2030 lachen.gif

Im not into cod but I don't see why everyone is throwing a hissy fit.

COD makes tons of money, the fans are not clamoring for a new game engine but for the gameplay to remain to their liking, if reusing the same engine was a negative that could effect cod sales significantly they would address it but its not as this is evident by the record sales and trucks load of money it makes every year. The people crying same old engine, this game really needs a new engine are those who would probably not buy it in the first place. Its blatently obvious anything popular on this site; Battlefield or COD garners extreme hate regardless of what the topic is about, it just has to have cod or battlefield in it and the haters come.

CoD desperately needs an engine update. I'm actually saying that because CoD is facing serious competition now. This isn't 2008 anymore. It doesn't cut it anymore.

On the topic of .50BMG. I'm not ex-military, or a physicist, or a physician. I have rudimentary knowledge of many disciplines and I can tell you right now that .50BMG would be very lucky to split a person in two. I can imagine it happening but I can't imagine it happening very often. It is extremely hard to split a human body in two. Extremely. We are talking bones, tissues, and organs, as well as fat. There are many things that affect bullet fragmentation, and force impact. The angle of entry, the distance fired from, the point of entry, and of course the person itself. Ballistic Gel tests are NOT accurate representations of the human body at all. I don't care what you've seen but bones and muscle tissue can take an enormous amount of punishment. a 60. BMG would have to enter a body perfectly perpendicular, at peak velocity, hit precisely in the abdomen, go through a spine vertebrae straight through the joint and out, to produce the explosive effect that I would imagine could potentially rip a human body in half. An extremely unlikely scenario.

I'm not sure if you've SEEN a .50 BMG bullet in real life... It is truly MASSIVE. I am not in the least bit saying that it would be LUCKY to split a man in half, it is definitely a possibility. We can get off this topic whenever, but let's not derive this thread. The main argument came from the Barrett not being a 1-shot kill in Call of Duty, which it is. In MW2, any shot above the waistline was a 1-shot kill, with the exception of the arms on NON-hardcore. Of course, any spot of a persons body in hardcore equated to a kill. If you haven't played CoD's hardcore multiplayer, I think it is the best, besides the fact that you basically don't survive if you've been shot by almost any weapon. I think Black Ops pulled off hardcore the best, I'm not really sure. But it is definitely lots and lots of fun.
