Alot depends on what ammo you are utilizing. I am currently deployed and AP rounds eat up flesh.. While I have not seen one cut someone in half it will take your head clean off.

Yea, sadly most people don't know crap about how gaming engines work or the industry it self, but love to talk big.

As i mentioned before, in all reality if they changed to a Unigine engine, who's to say that Unigine would be crap compared to how CoD feels right now. Yes it's not the best looking game, but who cares?
As an FPS lover, I want responsiveness in my game more than anything, and as I brought it up before for an example, I couldn't play Crysis 3's multiplayer with out getting a headache from how bad the responsiveness of the guns was in it. The "twitch" shooting aspect of it, is horrible.
New engines bring many new issues to the table, creating up from scratch might end up being a complete waste because the game will feel completely different and the main reason why ppl love the gameplay of CoD will be gone, licensing one from someone else? Again, many engines are just plain TERRIBLE for FPS games..RPG? RTS? Ect? sure..FPS? Hell no. I can't see Unigine being good for it either. When you put licensing fees and the amount of money they would spend trying to polish it so that it would feel the same, it is just not worth it. Especially when in the industry they are making lots of money.

Taking your head off and slicing a body in half are two different things..very different. The amount of force it would take to truly rip a body in half is beyond that of a .50 cal. Look up photos of animals being hunted by that caliber and look at what happens. Big holes? yes. Sliced in half? Hell no.

Also, only on OCN can there be an incredibly pointless argument about something that has nothing to do with the OP.

So they say that designing a new game engine from the ground up is impossible in two years?

Doesn't DICE do that for almost every one of their games?

After playing nothing but Source and Frostbite for two years, I can't stand the COD engine.

While I don't disagree with you, it's kind of ironic, considering the discussion, that you just brought up Source into the conversation. Talk about an engine that needs to get trashed. 9 years old I believe and that's it's going public age. (I know Source 2 is coming)

OT: I still haven't played a CoD since MW1. It looks pretty good, considering it's the same engine. For me though, it's largely irrelevant. They made their name on the pc and then told the pc gaming community to go @#$% itself. I haven't bought a CoD since. Not even on sale.

Nope. Frostbite 2 and 3 where not built from scratch but based on what came before. Its no different then what Infinity Ward is doing now. Its not unusual at all to call a major update to an old engine a "new" engine. Crytek does this to as did valve.

When a new version of an engine is revealed it is very rarely at total rewrite form the ground up but rather just an extended and improved version of the old engine.

I've had people survive the .50 in both MW and MW3, the older versions were a bit more on point when it came to damage. Unless they had painkiller, which was an outrageous perk.

To make it more annoying, the gun was designed specifically for cover penetration. In which case, I don't see a single situation where you should have to hit the target multiple times under cover. they should really work on how they design a cover system for damage and how that works in their engine.

I even think the .50 handgun doesn't get the penetration. In all honesty, none of the AP rounds really get the penetration they deserve. I've always felt that in the game, the AP rounds don't do that much more damage on the targets with body armor. My biggest gripe with the game isn't the looks, it's more so the mechanics themselves. Most of these CAN be fixed without a new engine too. BO2 seems to (IMO) try the hardest at those mechanics, the MW* series just seems to get worse each release. MW3 is... I'm frankly not a fan, don't even remember why I have a copy. Might have come with my Xbox? lol

[OFF Topic] John L Plaster and Bing West have both written books which state what I have been saying. Finally found two credible sources, more credible than anyone here unless they have first hand accounts. Don't know who they are, look it up. That's all I gotta say on that.

Call of Duty fans, the only group of people who consistently prefer their gameplay over their graphics.

As a PC gamer, they are as close to old school as you get, I hope you all realize that about that group.

Almost all engines are maintained this way as well. Treyarch just rebuilt the engine to encompass DX11. That was a huge deal for them and see no reason for them to change it personally.

Why do they need a new engine? People clamoring and snickering hate Call of Duty anyways and or play it regardless. Just whining.
