Plus, new games are put on old engines all the time, look at Source, it's still the same engine from 2004, just with upgrades. This might be in the same sort of boat

but is a engine from 2004! cod is one from 1999, no as pc gamer i quit cod on world at war.

They have made so much money off this franchise, I don't get why they don't just buy rights to use the latest Unreal engine. Hell, they could develop a new engine in 1 year with all the money they have, just have a 24/7 sweat shop.

This is what I think as well. In 1 year, with all the money they've made, they can hire a team of engineers to completely rework a game to what they need. It's hardly a question, that's all that needs to be done. But it's also the fact that people are complaining that the engine sucks, but it does not IMO. Like the guy said earlier, the mechanics work VERY well IMO, I loved them in Black Ops, but all this talk about the engine needs to be new is kind of stupid. I continue to buy the game because of the stories that they put in as well as the multiplayer gameplay that I like so much. It offers a very good experience for those willing to take time with it, but again, people love to hate the game, and it makes me look at them weirdly lol.

Why is there comparison between this and BF? Two games with completely different play styles? But where's the rage that FrostBite 3.0 is basically almost the same as 2.0.........never mind that would require most of the people on this forum to actually think.

Here is the full interview, if anyone wants to make an opinion based off of more than what the maker of the video in the OP wants you to see:
They start talking about the engine at arround 3:40
http://youtu.be/ciRQ0XsPoQs
Also, When asked what the engine was built on, he said that it was originally based off of the quake engine, but they've done "so many new engines and overhauls, that I'm not sure if any of it still even exists."

Imo the way I see it, it's like putting a glass of water under the sink and leaving the tap on. The water overflows and gets replaced, but you can't exactly say when. I guess with the upgrades they did this time, in their opinion it's safe to call it a new engine. I personally am going to hold back until I see actual gameplay and full resolution screenshots on max settings to make an opinion on it.

That engine is older than most of the people who play the game itself.

That is so bad and deceiving. Touting a whole new engine blah blah. Shame on them. Billions of dollars and they refuse to come up with a all new engine. They had plenty of time for "next gen". It makes you question the new consoles coming out now. Are they really that powerful or not?

It doesn't at all.

And this is just Soo disappointing. I didn't think it looked any different and had a long way to go before taking advantage of the new hardware but it really isn't at all in any way. I hoe the backlash from this is huge, they deserve it.

I'm only posting once. I said the developers were crap years ago, the game is essentially the same thing. The only part of that series in which it has done well is stuff made by Treyarch. Otherwise, development has and will be done by shoddy developers. Don't believe me, keep buying this crap.

Further more, to DEFEND (yes, I'm fair in all honesty) them. Most developed engines aren't done in 2 years, they are usually started quite a while before release. For example, since it was posted on the first page and that's all the farther I cared to read, cryengine 3. It was probably in development during the time Cryengine 2 was released. This happens all the time. Most companies who have engines like that, especially since we started using modular engines, are always in a state of development. They get to a state, or point where things are very polished, and release it as the new engine. Only to continue further development on new areas of the engine.

Now, the problem (back to devil's advocate) with the COD series is. Well, they have shoddy developers. You don't see the quality of development, where they will overhaul major parts of the engine. I blame this on a couple factors. All of them go back to them being shoddy developers to begin with. For the most part, they are used to these set types of code. Specific effects or effect types, they aren't really the developers who push the boundaries or create new techniques. To put it bluntly, they do what works until somebody else creates a new technique. If it can be added into their engine with a certain amount of ease and still hold the same productivity (engine performance) they do. Otherwise, they simply cannot expand their engine.

Heck, to further push my views, they still use the iD tech engine they started with. They can't even license (they have the money) a new engine and carve it into what they could use. If they had that ability, they probably would.

And you wonder why I'm one of the all haters of COD. I just bought CS:GO, I have a VAC ban from MW that's gotten me banned from some CS:GO servers. I've thought about getting a new blank account just for CS:GO. Why? Because they may not have a new engine, but at least they can create something better with an "aged" engine. That and Valve isn't one to release a new engine unless they can assure it runs as they want. Which currently means on all platforms: Windows, OSX, Linux, Consoles. <- That's a good developer.

Now I'll say, with what they have it's looking well. This is what we should have had on the PC about 5 years ago. This tells us a lot. Mainly they are console centric developers, they have a focus on the simplicity of console development. If they had any sense in PC development, they would make a game engine that could scale well on both. They don't, which tells you a lot about who they are. And by now, I'd expect them to have done so. You don't develop a game for over 6+ years and no major PC enhancements. These aren't PC enhancements, they are expansions of what the console can already do. These lighting techniques are already available in current gen, just not at the resolution (texture detail) and poly count. So while it's a good job, it certainly shows their tallent level.

I'll keep thinking this until they produce something that makes me eat my words, which is not likely to happen. Even though they have been given close to PC hardware, what have they done? Plain and simple, small expansions on what they already have done. Which is about the development level I expected from the company to begin with.
