i need help you guys. I screwed up I think - tried to pull heatsink off. pulled cpu out with it

I my new tube of thermalpaste arrived. I unhooked my newly applied stock heatsink. It was stuck... So I gently pulled on it and it came out.. But the processor is stuck to it! I yanked it out of the socket! One of the pins on the outside is bent...

Before I do anything else. I want to know what I can do to salve this operation. I will be pissed If I wrecked either my mobo or processor. The pin I could maybe bend back cause its on the outside. The rest appear to be fine...

How do I remove the processor from the heatsink without damaging anything?

I am really upset right now you guys.

EDIT: So I found an amd guide that said you should "twist" it off. Ugh. Never thought of this considering I had no trouble popping it off my lga board. Then again, that has a cover that hold its down....

heat the top of the heatsink block with a blow dryer. That should loosen the thermal paste THEN twist it off.

Thanks. I will give that a shot when I get home. I cannot believe I did this.. I took my magnifying goggles to it and I can see that several pins are slightly(barely noticeable, just a degree or two) bent.

I guess there is no point in speculating as to whether I killed it or not. I just need to get it un-stuck. Oh well, lesson learned. Atleast if I did break it. Its only 120 bucks down the drain; as opposed to 300+ if I had bought the 4770k.

A credit card works good to straighten pins, and don't worry the cpu will still work.

your processor should be fin. i've bent many a pin in this way, just straightened it and continued on.

^^^ I sure hope its okay. Its very frustrating considering I installed it two days ago.

Only that one pin was off by around 15 degrees. The others are so slight I could only see them with my jewelers goggles.

I always use a straightpin to straighten pins..Run it gently down the row to the middle of chip then pick up on the head;also a medium paper clip to "comb the rows" after using the pin..i pull it halfway apart to about 45 degrees
and use the big part for "combing" and the little part for a handle.
This method really works good;about half the AMD chips I get off fleabay come with bent pins sozo.gif

It's impossible to pull your CPU out of the socket by accident on an LGA board.. Unless the socket comes out of the board along with the CPU.

It's one of the reasons I feel LGA is superior to pins on the CPU, no accidents like this will happen.
