Hello.. I am not sure I am in the right forum so lemme know if I am not. I have an Asus Rampage 2 and 2 7850 2 gig cards in crossfire. My problem is that when I use the 2 pcie slots on the top it covers up my pci slot and I cant use a soundcard. link to my board http://www.asus.com/ROG_ROG/RAMPAGE_II_EXTREME . Can I use the top slot and the bottom slot and some kinda longer bridge to free up my pci slot? Is the bottom pcie slot real slow and would make performance worse? If this will work where do I get a longer bridge so I can attach the cards.. If it wont work then what would you guys suggest for a soundcard? I need something that isnt too high dolla as im not an audiophile.. When I bought this board it didnt come with the dedicated soundcrd that fits above the videocard.. Is there a type of card that would work in that slot? A lot of questions but Im an old Onion and refuse to go back to futuremark and need you guys help.. Thanks!

I consulted the manual for the RIIExtreme and when running dual Graphics Card, it wants you to use slot 1 and 2 for 16x speeds.

if you use slot 1 and 3, slot 3 will be 8x. This will have an impact on performance. How big of an impact? You could test this for yourself -- just benchmark slot 1 & 2 in a game you play, then benchmark 1 & 3 and see if the difference is significant to you.

As for the Crossfire bridge, I'm pretty sure ASUS gives that stuff out for free if you ask them. You may need to give them the serial numbers of the stuff you bought from them, but I believe they will just give you crossfire bridges. If not, I have a extended crossfire bridge I can hopefuly dig up and send to you.

Also, just if you were curious, ASUS realized this issue themselves, and since the Rampage III motherboard, dual SLI/Crossfire setups have been changed to slot 1 and 3, rather than 1 and 2.
