So, AMD, what now? - Page 2

this kinda feels like a bad thing for those who want to upgrade to new tech but dont want to pocket dive too much.

Im seeking a beefy video card to upgrade to from this 7850 OC 1.1ghz.

I wanted a 7950 (300$) but at the same time i feel like i could open up my funds to somthing else that is truly powerful and future proof ( running 120hz) but i cant afford a titan and the 7970 just doesnt seem to be worth the 100$ premium over the 7950. so whats next? 780? i still cant afford 650$ the 770 is only as good as the 680 right? i imagen its gonna trade blows (maybe a bit better) with the 7970 but again im sure the price will be too much for a couple % gain over the 7970.

Im hoping for a reall nice price drop in the later months.

I would seriously consider a 780 if it were closer to 500$ but thats dreaming im sure.

Yes, which is all well and good, but how long will that take?

Enthusiasts don't wait around for several years between GPU's, just to slam the breaks on and say, "no your not getting anything new for another year" will have enfusiasts switching to where the momentum is.

By the time AMD get around to bringing out a new GPU Nvidia will just turn around and say "we also have another new set of GPU's"

Nvidia know how to keep people onboard and how to mash the completion into the ground even with far worse value for money. AMD don't have a clue and just bend over for them to exacerbate their own bad situation.

Where is the fight? why aren't AMD announcing a response strategy, no... just let Nvidia run away with it.....

Nothing is future proof, there are things that will last longer... but future proof.... no such thing. Even the Titan will only be top dog until the next series of GPU's.

There wont be any price drops not till AMD comes out with something else. Theres no reason to drop prices on teir cards that still cary price/performance ratio with 4 free games even with the 780 out. If i was an early adopter of the 7900 series i would Xfire.

If i remember AMD released first the 7k series. They just skipped the refresh. Do you remember the refresh from 5k series to 6k series. Nothing impressive.I have quadfire and it was too much . I downgraded to cfx and i can play just fine on multimonitor. Atm the moment you can find 7950s for 250 each. Get 2 and have 50% more performance than 780.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

If you want single gpu now you can buy nvidia. Great cards great quality super marketing hype. Because nvidia had a shedule for now that doesnt mean that AMD should have one too. They have different plans

I'm actually thinking of going with Nvidia on my next purchase. After spending $550 on an XFX 7970 Ghz (+3 RMA shipping) I can't get the bad taste out of my mouth. One bad apple spoiled the bunch unfortunately. Will flip a coin between a Titan or 780. I actually found $300 in 50$ bills rolled up on the floor walking home from the store, so that's a good start.

What are they going to do though? If they don't have a chip, and it doesn't sound like they do, it's not like they can suddenly produce one in the next month or three. Another speed boost for the 7970? More games? The 7970 is already killing the 780 in price/performance so I don't see them dropping the price any lower either (depending on what the 770 brings though). Frankly, they don't have a lot of options unless they secretly already have a big Sea Islands chip ready to replace the 7970.

An AMD employee let slip / said... whatever.... that the Volcanic Islands (20nm) GPU's will be on sales this year.

So, confirm it , announce that, publish a road map.... MAKE SOME NOISE.
