Best Corsair memory for i7 3770k

Thread Starter
So I have this opportunity to purchase Corsair product for nearly half off. Anything Corsair.

I'm going with a 3770k, the ASUS Maximus V Formula and two GTX 560's in my rig. Now I need memory. I'm also buying an SSD, a case and a power supply from Corsair because of the pricing I get. Now I just want to know, what memory is best for this set up, and how much. I will be gaming 99% of the time and overclocking the remainder.

Thanks guys, this is the best forum on the web.

EDIT: I guess I should have said best for a reasonable price, like under $150 retail?

I think that Corsair Dominator Platinum is the best because of its astounding overclocking ability.

These are the ones I've been eyeing. They're a good price and seem to run cool due to the heat sinks. From what I understand, the Formula can use memory up to 1600Mhz?

http://www.corsair.com/en/memory-by-product-family/vengeance/vengeance-16gb-quad-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmz16gx3m4x1600c9.html

Also, is there an advantage to getting 4x4GB vs 2x8GB? I want the option to upgrade to 32GB later on if there isn't any disadvantage.

yea get these. you can overclock them as you can see in my sig. more ram (32gb) will be harder to overclock then 16gb so you have to make the call there yourself

If you're getting half price RAM, then you're actually able to get the Dominator Platinum at what it should havebbeen priced at for everyone. I say get some of the fast Dom Plat, like the 2400 9-11-11, 2666 10-12-12, etc. You'll be able to sell them for more than you paid, down the road, most likely. While they are NOT the best overclocking memory kits (G.Skill Ripjaws Z + Trident X, Samsung WundeRAM, etc all are much better OCers), but the price you would be paying actually makes this the only time I've ever been able to say "they're worth getting", at least compared to the Vengeance series.

Having the same CPU/Mobo setup that you are using, I can say that the Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133 2x4gb setup is nice, in order to upgrade to 16 GB later on. Especially with the 1.5v set vs the 1.65v sets that are out there, it does (as previously stated) leave some nice room for OCing. I can't personally vouch for the 2x8gb setup, but I am sure they are the same quality as far as build/OCing ability. I haven't had a single hiccup with mine yet, and have my CPU OCed to 5ghz+ with a WCing loop. For the current NewEgg price of $130 for the 2x4gb, they are pretty unbeatable quality for the price, just my two cents.

i'm sort of in the same board. i have a 3770k and gigabyte sniper board on the way and looking to get some memory. i'm eyeing 8gbx2 kits because i "was told more memory is better than faster memory". what you guys think about that and what do you recommend? i want to start off good and add more later.

the reason i'm getting the 3770k is cause my current motherboard died and has forced me to get a new cpu. the problem i had with my motherboard before it died was memory limit. i was maxed out at 8gb. i think 16gb would be more than enough but i have 6 monitors with tons of things always up. i'm not an overclocker. maybe i will be now. it would be nice to have the option....

The 3770K absolutely BEGS for some wonderful High Speed RAM! My personal favorite, in terms of the mix of speed/timings and performance/cost are the G.Skill Trident X DDR3-2400 9-11-11-31 (2x4GB Kit), as they are simply brimming with potential yet perform ridiculously well even if you don't do anything more than simply enable X.M.P.

A kit like that will really help your processor "open up", so to speak.
