I've seen a few dozen people who used ~22-24" monitors at the kind of distance i do, got a whole bunch who said they prefered ~100fov and nobody say they prefered under 90. I'm no scientist though, just seen a ton of people complaining about too low FOV in PC games especially for console ports, and nobody complaining of too high
They come standard with that kind of FOV because it's good for longer viewing distances, smaller screens etc. ~65-75fov horizontal is tailor made for console players.
And a little bit of news for you, most people don't get ill playing games at all.....ever.
I'm pretty sensitive to it, i like to push myself in terms of skill, physical and mental, i'm the type of person that would pick up instantly on somebody setting my mouse to 125hz or changing the dpi by 3%, or setting my screen to 60hz instead of 120/144. Just so happens that my prefered desk conditions have an optimal FOV of a bit over 90 for comfort, though i do enjoy overly stretching it in a few competitive games because of the advantage it brings, that doesn't have to be an option
90 horizontal FOV is kinda mandatory though, and i think if you were to take a poll on educated PC gamers using 16:9 ~22-24" screens at a relatively close viewing distance, you'd probably take a lot more than 75 as an average preference, maybe even more than 90Edited by Cyro999 - 8/16/13 at 10:09am
