Bottleneck?

Good morning OCN smile.gif

In games like BF3 and Diablo 3, I get around 20-40% GPU usage on my 7970 DC2T it's at 1160/1585
I have a 1090T BE at 4ghz
3,023Mhz NB
8GB 1728mhz 8-9-9-19 T1 Corsair memory

Is the card not running at 90+% because its being held back?

Quite often I get frame drops, still in the playable realm, but my GPU doesn't seem to increase load, maintaining around 40-60% in BF3, and 25-30% in D3. What gives?

What is your CPU load? This seems like a potential bottleneck.

I took a screen shot of HWInfo on my second monitor while playing.

Sorry about the quality

Posted CPUID because HWInfo doesn't report the correct NB speed.

Seems my CPU0 hits 40% and CPU1 hits 100% quite often.

The only bottleneck I could see is that it is distributing the load and that the Thuban processors do not have PCIe 3.0. I'm still scratching my head though. What drivers are you operating on?

I though there was not a AMD board that has PCIe 3.0? I could be wrong wheee.gif

Dang, I think you are right. I'm certainly not the best with all things AMD.

here was my usage with the phenom at 4GHz and the 7970 at stock in BF3 MP 64-man server . . .

not sure what's going on with your cpu. might be throttling. mine almost 60C and that underwater.

i am sure it goes down to around 85% in really heavy fights. i was just not too concerned, so long as it was smooth.

edit: btw, that was 1080 Ultra (all) and 4MSAA.

That was in D3, I'll jump into a bf3 game in a few, just got to run to the shops. I'm not sure why it's so bad, sometimes my FPS drops as low as 6, my CPU load is around 50-60% on one particular cpu, alot lower on the others.

It seems that the times I get the worst FPS, is when the CPU isnt actually being overloaded, and my GPU usage is around 15%, (this time with Vertical Sync turned on)

My GPU load is around 10-18% with VS, as apposed to the 25-40% ish without is, which is understanble as I get a solid 60 instead of 350-400's. I just cant figure out why i dips so low, I'm using a 840 Pro which benches 560/510 MB/s read/write, so I know its not related to HDD spooling.

Think it could be the mobo?

Nov, you may be right about the motherboard. your vrms are not sinked. throttling for sure.

here are my fps . . .

edit: btw, how is that psu? going to call it a day . . . i'll check back tomorrow.

Okay this is in BF3 on a 64 player map, seems to me like the cpu is holding back the card quite a bit.

There's no real upgrade for me on an AM3 chipset, and going FM with Steamroller around the corner wouldnt be wise before we get some more info on the chipset they intend to use.

The PSU is pretty solid, Thermaltake make some nice psu's. I've had three of them and never had issues, so far...
