If you don't have a 24/7 internet connection, the chances that you'll own an Xbox 360/One are incredibly low.

Their demographic and target audience are clearly, people with the internet.

There has been multiple comments from MS staff that the Xbox One was designed to be online. It is an Internet device. What's next? Are people going to complain that their modem requires a Internet connection for full functionality? Joking of course...as there is a big difference in the two devices, but almost no one complains that you have to have a data plan to get a smart phone...accept me. I barely ever use my 3G/4G...I am almost always on a wireless network. I have no reason to have a data plan. Where are the torches and pitch forks for that issue? It isn't a 24/7 device, but must connect to the 3G at least once in its life...perhaps more. I haven't tried leaving it offline for long. Why is this OK, but an Xbox needing to ping a server once a day is a terrible thing?

Though I truly can't see this being an issue. With the crap clouds hanging over the Xbox One at the moment I think the details of the Internet requirements are the least of any one's concerns...save for maybe people who like to pirate some console games.

Just a Nintendo stroking article is what I see.
Microsoft has always been ignorant with their concepts and plan when it comes to consoles.

Look at the percentage of single player games compared to multi on consoles over the past @ 10 years -- You'll see a significant decline.

Again, welcome to the new world...It is what it is.

The "new world" is only like that because people like you encourage this kind of behavior.

Having an always-online Xbox with a kinect is potentially the same thing as Microsoft coming into your house and installing security cameras.

People are gonna go for the Wii U, because regardless of how you feel about Nintendo, they legitimately try to make everyone happy. Microsoft knows they're invincible, so they don't even care anymore.

They said it isn't always online but stated it did have to have an internet connection. So yes, there is an online requirement. What that means is what we are trying to figure out. If they weren't ready to show off the xbox one they shouldn't have attempted to do it anyway. All it did was leave us with more questions and doubts because if they aren't giving answers all we can do is assume the worse. The line of thinking is that if the truth was something we would have liked, they would have told us about it.

This is the elephant in the room people like you seem to overlook.. It's a CONSOLE!!! The entire appeal of consoles where the fact that you could just go to a store pop in a game and play. Up until the original Xbox they were more reliable than PC's in regards to hardware failures as well much cheaper. Now consoles are $400, plagued with motherboard crashes and not require internet registration to play games. Remember even as recent as this generation you could go over a friend's house and take a new game with you? That's no longer possible.

Microsoft has went away from every advantage they had over PC gaming. Without exclusive titles they aren't even worth looking at.

I get that, but I think that MS is still misguided after Windows 8. They're alienating their bread and butter audiences for newer audiences when they really don't need to.

I have security cameras in my home so, I don't quite see the issue here...Your assumption is that Microsoft uses the data from the Kinect to spy on individuals (Which is incredibly illegal btw, 4th Amendment violation among others) and that's simply ludicrous considering there's actually no evidence of that actually happening -- Only theories.

My job is an administrator, I design and install networks so, of course I encourage this kind of behavior because I think everybody, should have the internet.

I don't care what Xbox does because I don't NEED an Xbox to function in daily life...It's an extra...Not a necessity. If you don't want an Xbox One, DO NOT BUY IT.

I have both the Xbox 360 and the Wii U -- Truth be told, I prefer the Xbox, even with the conspiracy theories and "always-on" XBL.

Why do you come off as so angry and defensive over this...

Obviously someone who has no internet connection is going to be unlikely to buy and use a gaming console, but that doesn't mean that those people don't exist.

Instead of getting all up in a fuss over how you believe that Microsoft only wants to target those that have an internet connection, and a solid one at that. Take a step back for a minute and think:

The Wii sold so well because people who would never ever buy a gaming console bought it. The "casual" market, how many of these (and I don't have the statistic either) do you believe have a solid 24/7/365 internet connection? On top of that how many do you believe will know how to utilize that connection?

Instead of just giving vague responses to everything, be direct about what Microsoft's plan with this console seems to be: Sell these exclusively to the East and West coasts of America. These areas have a high population density of almost guaranteed individuals that are always connected to the internet. That is there plan, and there is no reason to be ashamed because of it.

When "Active Internet Connection" is printed on the box under requirements, they have no excuse or room to complain.
