Yes, you are. A phone NEEDS to be connected to a network, because the entire point of a phone is to CONNECT to people.

The point of a game console is to play games. The buyer won't benefit in any way whatsoever from a console that is required to be connected at all times.

Also, a phone still works if it's not connected to a network. The Xbox One will suspend a lot of its functionality if it's unable to connect.

Previous game consoles weren't required to have a connection to the internet. This one does. If your phone doesn't have access to the internet, no calls, no texts, no browser, no apps that require internet access, pretty overall gimped device as well at that point. The new XBOX and other game consoles are obviously moving more towards a social environment which in the majority of cases here, requires internet access. Whether you choose to use those aspects doesn't mean anything, that is now the main focus of next-gen game consoles, not purely game based.

The whole basis of the new XBOX was made pretty clear. A consumption device that has the option to play games.

Game Console
BluRay / DVD Player
Music Player
TV Guide and misc Controls
Internet Browser
Media Streaming
Misc Applications

Seems like gaming is just 1 of many things this XBOX was designed for.

The "game console" is not longer just a "game console". It is many things and is evolving to cater to a wide audience. Much like phones have.

I'm pretty sure a phone suspends most of its functionality if it does not have a connection to the network, you know like making calls, text messaging, internet access... tongue.gif

all i can say is this

Wake up guys:

1. how many of your xbox 360s autmatically sign in when you play single player games. even just after you turn on your console? most likely alot. this is the same thing man. lol

2.steam/origin do the same exact thing with thier offline modes. but i dont see anyone whining about it.

3. welcome to the 24th and a half century. duck dodgers here. we all have internet 97% of the time, bandwidth cap or unlimited usage. youve even got it on your damn cellphone. if you dont have it one way youll have it another. so i dont see the point in whining bout a feature you wont notice days later.

4. i see them having a right to do this. i know enough people who pirate games. and i dont condone the behaviour at all.

5. who cares about the useless features we will never use. get over it .

That's exactly why gamers aren't happy with it. We don't want a consumption device that just so happens to play games. We want games first. That's why we're GAMERS.

It's kind of hard to use the phone in this argument because at the very least a smartphone can still perform its original function to the point where EVERYONE and their mother already knows a smartphone can make phone calls just as easily (sometimes even better) than phones of the past. I don't necessarily think the problem is the Xbox One being more than a gaming console. The problem is it's more than a gaming console and putting the features, that a lot of us don't care about in the first place, ahead of the market that helped make who they are right now in the first place. "Oh hey, thanks for the money, gamers........yea we'll get back to you in a minute HEY GUYS! biggrin.gif Wanna see something neato?! 'Xbox, On. Xbox, TV.' Isn't that cool?! biggrin.gif"

I don't get why people are so adamant on defending it's always online connection.

It serves no purpose other than giving Microsoft control over how you use a product you paid for. Why would anyone support this? Do you like not using your products the way you want? rolleyes.gif
